摘要:
A process for the production of moldings of compressed expanded graphite includes producing three-dimensional moldings of compressed graphite expandate by bonding together two-dimensional pre-formed pieces of pre-compressed expanded graphite under the influence of pressure to provide single-piece moldings. A process for conducting, exchanging or storing heat using the moldings and a process for producing a heat storage device, are also provided.

Composites are prepared from resin-impregnated flexible graphite materials. Impregnated materials are compressed and cured at elevated temperature and pressure to form structures suitable for uses such as electronic thermal management (ETM) devices, supercapacitors and secondary batteries.

An expansion graphite sheet of high thermal resistance includes an expansion graphite as a main component, and inorganic thermal resistance particles made of at least one selected from the group consisting of aluminum boride (AlB2 and/or AlB12), silicon boride (SiB6), zinc boric acid (2ZnO.3B2O3.3.5H2O) and phosphorous boride (PB). An exhaust gasket made of the expansion graphite sheet, in addition to the expansion graphite sheet, can exhibit high thermal (oxidization) resistance under a high temperature of 600-700° C.

Disclosed herein is a method of manufacturing expanded graphite products. The method comprises the steps of a) compressing expanded graphite to form a graphite thin film, b) milling the graphite thin film to form graphite flakes, and c) placing the graphite flakes in a mold and compressing the graphite flakes to form a predetermined shape, wherein during at least any one of the steps a), b) and c), a binder is mixed with the expanded graphite. There are provided advantageous effects that as the density of the expanded graphite product increases through respective manufacturing steps, not only are initial equipment costs reduced due to minimized equipment, but also an expanded graphite product having a uniform density and a closely packed structure is provided. Additionally, since the expanded graphite product is finally compressed in the mold, the expanded graphite product does not have directional preference and can be formed into various shapes.

The invention provides a high purity carbonaceous material which is reduced in contents of oxygen, nitrogen and chlorine readily binding to carbon atoms and in contents of elements, phosphorus, sulfur and boron, readily binding to carbon atoms upon heating and which can be used in producing single crystals such as semiconductors, a high purity carbonaceous material for use as a substrate for ceramic layer coating, and a ceramic layer-coated high purity carbonaceous material. The high purity carbonaceous material has oxygen content of 1×1018 atoms/cm3 or less as determined by SIMS. Its chlorine content is preferably 1×1016 atoms/cm3 or less as determined by SIMS, and its nitrogen content is preferably 5×1018 atoms/cm3 or less as determined by SIMS. Its phosphorus, sulfur and boron contents are preferably not higher than respective specified values. Such a high purity carbonaceous material is coated with ceramic layer.

The invention relates to a feedstock material for use in making heat spreaders, comprising a sheet of annealed pyrolytic graphite having a thermal conductivity of greater than 1000 watts/m-K, a size in any dimension of at least 5 cm and a thickness of at least 0.2 mm. In one embodiment, the feedstock is made by hot-pressing a stack of alternate layers of pyrolytic graphite sheets with flat graphite dies for a finished sheet of annealed pyrolytic graphite comprising a plurality of layers being parallel to each other of at least 0.075 degrees per mm of thickness. In another embodiment, the finished sheet of annealed pyrolytic graphite is made by graphitizing a stack of films comprising a high-carbon polymer.

Flexible graphite sheet is made by compressing a mixture of fine particle of intercalated, exfoliated, expanded natural graphite with fine particles of intercalated, unexpanded, expandable particles of natural graphite, the unexpanded particles being more finely sized than the expanded particles. The resulting sheet of flexible graphite exhibits improved fire retardant and sealability properties.

Mouldings containing expanded expandable graphite are characterised in that they additionally contain acid phosphates of metals of group 2 and/or 3 of the periodic table of the elements and/or pyrolysis products thereof. Such mouldings are distinguished by the fact that they have low odour and are mechanically stable, and, when in contact with water, do not have pH values which are too low.
