Abstract:
Isolated populations of fetal renal stem cells and progenitor cells are provided. Also provided are methods of generating and using these isolated populations of cells.
Abstract:
Provided are liposomes including a lipid membrane enclosing an intraliposomal compartment. The liposomes may encapsulate an iron complex, including an iron moiety and a macromolecule, in the intraliposomal compartment. The liposomes may additionally have a targeting moiety associated with the liposomal membranes. The targeting moiety may be exposed at the liposome's outer surface. The liposomes exhibit an immunomodulatory effect or anti-cancer effect depending on the molar ratio between the lipids forming the lipid membrane and the iron complex. As such, the liposomes can be used to treat types of inflammation, particularly inflammations that are not associated or caused by infection or be used to treat cancer. Further provided are compositions including the disclosed liposomes, methods of using and kits including the liposomes.
Abstract:
Provided are compositions and methods for preventing premature follicle activation and loss induced by acute insults, such as, medical treatment, a disease or a disorder, thereby preserving fertility in a subject.
Abstract:
A device for retarding birth including an upper ring for surrounding a cervix, an anchoring component for anchoring the device, and an elastic component for attaching the upper ring to the anchoring component, wherein the elastic component pushes the upper ring and the anchoring component apart. A device for retarding birth including a sleeve for surrounding a cervix along a greater portion of a length of the cervix, a support strip on the sleeve directed along an axis of the sleeve, and a ring at least partially around the sleeve, in which when a top of the sleeve is pushed to expand radially, the support strip pivots on the ring, such that an end of the support strip near the top of the sleeve moves radially outward, and an end of the support strip near the bottom of the sleeve moves radially inward. Related apparatus and methods are also described.
Abstract:
The present invention provides a unique profile of volatile organic compounds as breath biomarkers for lung cancer. The present invention further provides the diagnosis, prognosis and monitoring of lung cancer or predicting the response to an anti-cancer treatment through the detection of the unique profile of volatile organic compounds indicative of lung cancer at its various stages.
Abstract:
The present invention discloses a device suitable for delivery of a fluid composition to an eye, especially therapeutic compositions, comprising: a hollow needle with a bore having a proximal end and a distal end, said distal end configured to pass into a passage in a sclera of an eye, said bore configured to function as a conduit for a fluid from said proximal end to said distal end, and a solid separator having a distal tip, configured to move inside said bore of said hollow needle allowing said distal tip of said separator to protrude from said distal end of said needle.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to methods for diagnosing, staging, prognosticating and treating melanoma based on evaluating the expression of specific patterns of oncogenic or suppressive microRNA (miR) molecules in a patient in need thereof.
Abstract:
Provided are methods and kits for classifying a subject as being more likely to have benign multiple sclerosis (BMS) or as being more likely to have typical relapsing remitting multiple sclerosis (RRMS). Classification of multiple sclerosis disease course is performed by comparing a level of expression of at least one gene involved in the RNA polymerase I pathway in a cell of the subject to a reference expression data of said at least one gene obtained from a cell of at least one subject pre-diagnosed as having BMS and/or from a cell of at least one subject pre-diagnosed as having typical RRMS, thereby classifying the subject as being more likely to have BMS or as being more likely to have typical RRMS. Also provided are methods of diagnosing and treating multiple sclerosis and methods of monitoring treatment efficiency.
Abstract:
A Veress needle includes an outer needle having a shaft and a sharp distal point. The sharp distal point and a distal portion of the shaft are configured to penetrate tissue. A spring-loaded, inner cannula is disposed in the outer needle. The cannula has a dull tip and a gas exit aperture is formed near a distal end of the cannula. The outer needle has an outwardly expandable portion located on the distal portion of the shaft.
