Abstract:
A system and method for controlling automatic start/stop operations for an engine. While the engine is shutdown, operation of the engine may be automatically started upon expiration of a threshold time limit or in response to one or more adverse or deteriorated conditions of a power storage device, such as, for example, a state of health, state of function, or state of charge of the power storage device. After the engine has been automatically started, the ability of the controller to subsequently automatically stop the operation of the engine may be disabled until at least one secondary condition is satisfied. Upon satisfaction of the at least one secondary condition, the controller may again be enabled to at least automatically stop the operation of the engine.
Abstract:
Apparatuses, systems, methods, and techniques relating to engine start/stop functionality are disclosed. Automatic engine start/stop controls can be disabled during engine operating conditions in which one or more combustion parameters indicate a lack of combustion stability in one or more cylinders of the engine. Engine start/stop controls are enabled when the one or more combustion parameters satisfy combustion parameter conditions indicating combustion stability in the one or more cylinders.
Abstract:
A method of controlling a vehicle accessory includes determining a transmission of a vehicle is in a non-park setting; in response to determining the transmission of the vehicle is in the non-park setting, receiving speed data indicative of a speed of the vehicle; determining a speed to operate the vehicle accessory based on the vehicle speed; comparing the determined speed to operate the vehicle accessory to a speed threshold; and in response to determining that the determined speed is below the speed threshold, providing a command to the vehicle accessory to one of deactivate the vehicle accessory or operate the vehicle accessory at a reduced operating state relative to a current operating state of the vehicle accessory.
Abstract:
Methods, systems, and apparatus of managing the lifespan of a battery are disclosed herein. A method comprises interpreting age data indicative of a current age of a battery, interpreting usage data indicative of a current usage of the battery, comparing the age data to the usage data, and allocating a propelling power from the battery in a hybrid electric vehicle (HEV) responsive to the comparison.
Abstract:
An alternator voltage may be controlled based on a proportional gain scheduling in response to an engine load of an internal combustion engine and/or a state of charge (SOC) deviation for a battery based on a target SOC of the battery and an actual SOC of the battery. The alternator voltage may be a voltage less than a current battery voltage under high engine loads to enable the battery to power an accessory system and the alternator voltage may be a voltage greater than a voltage of the battery under low engine loads or engine loads less than high engine loads to enable the alternator to charge the battery.
Abstract:
A method of controlling electrically-powered vehicle accessories includes receiving energy data, the energy data providing an indication of an availability of free energy; receiving an electrically-powered vehicle accessory classification for an electrically-powered vehicle accessory, the classification including one of a critical and a discretionary electrically-powered vehicle accessory; receiving a prioritization for the electrically-powered vehicle accessory based on the classification and whether the electrically-powered vehicle accessory has an energy storage component; and providing a command to control energy consumption by the electrically-powered vehicle accessory based on its prioritization and the availability of free energy.

Abstract:
Some exemplary embodiments include an electrically driven cooling system for cooling non-engine components of a vehicle. The electrically driven cooling system includes a closed loop coolant flowpath including an electrically driven coolant pump and a radiator connected to the closed loop coolant flowpath, and one or more components connected in parallel and/or in series in the closed loop coolant flow path that receives the coolant. An electrically driven radiator fan is also operable to cool the coolant in the radiator. The electrically driven cooling system is flow isolated from any mechanically driven cooling system that provides coolant to the engine for vehicles that include an engine.
Abstract:
Diagnosis system, method, and apparatus for a starting system are discloses herein. The method comprises receiving a run condition parameter for a vehicle, receiving a fueling system engagement parameter and an associated time threshold for the fueling system engagement parameter, and receiving an ignition command for turning an engine of the vehicle from an off state to an on state. If the run condition parameter is met, the method receives time data indicative of a time duration from reception of the ignition command to reach or substantially reach the fueling system engagement parameter, compare the time duration to the associated time threshold, and diagnose a starting system of the vehicle based on the comparison.
Abstract:
Systems, apparatus, and methods are disclosed for providing an electrical torque command to an electric motor and/or a combustion torque command to an internal combustion engine in response to a torque output value determined in response to an oxygen limited torque response of a conventional baseline engine and a torque curve of the internal combustion engine of a hybrid or start-stop vehicle.
