Abstract: A method for generating a three-dimensional geomechanical model of a subsurface volume is provided. The geomechanical model may be used to predict changes in geomechanical stress in the grid (such as a three-dimensional unstructured grid), which may be caused by extraction from or injection into the reservoir. The geomechanical model may be generated by solving, in combination, the finite element method at the vertices of a respective cell in the grid for momentum balance and the finite volume method at the center of the respective cell for mass balance. In this way, one or both of rock displacement or pore flow may be solved using the geomechanical model.

Abstract: Offshore systems and methods may be configured for oil production, offshore power generation, ammonia production, and carbon dioxide injection for EOR. For example, a method performed on an offshore facility may include: separating a produced hydrocarbon into a produced gas and a produced oil; combusting the produced gas to produce power and a flue gas; at least partially removing nitrogen from the flue gas to produce a carbon dioxide-enriched flue gas and a nitrogen-enriched flue gas; reforming a portion of the produced gas to produce a stream including hydrogen and carbon dioxide; at least partially separating the carbon dioxide from the stream to yield a carbon dioxide stream and a hydrogen stream; reacting the hydrogen stream and the nitrogen-enriched flue gas to yield ammonia; combining and compressing the carbon dioxide stream and the carbon dioxide-enriched flue gas; and injecting the compressed gas from the gas compressor into the gas reservoir.

Abstract: The invention is a data processing method and system for suggesting insightful and surprising sentences to geoscientists from unstructured text. The data processing system makes the necessary calculations to assign a surprisingness score to detect sentences containing several signals which when combined exponentially, have tendencies to give rise to surprise. In particularly, the data processing system operates on any digital unstructured text derived from academic literature, company reports, web pages and other sources. Detected sentences can be used to stimulate ideation and learning events for geoscientists in industries such as oil and gas, economic mining, space exploration and Geo-health.

Abstract: Geologic modeling methods and systems are provided with a novel log segmentation approach and an improved conditioning technique for fitting geobody templates to associated well segments in multiple wells. One illustrative geologic modeling method embodiment includes: deriving a sequence of well segments from each logged well in a region of interest; associating well segments from different wells to form sets of associated well segments; populating a region of interest with geobodies by fitting a parameterized geobody template to each set of associated well segments; using the geobodies to specify a volumetric distribution of formation properties throughout the region of interest; and providing the volumetric distribution as a geologic model suitable for evaluating one or more well placement and production strategies.

Abstract: Catalytic compositions and sequential catalytic methods are generally described. In some embodiments, a composition comprises a first catalyst comprising a Cu-modified zeolite, and a second catalyst capable of a coupling reaction between (a) an intermediate resulting from a reaction of a reactant at the first catalyst, and (b) a co-reagent, wherein a rate of diffusion of the co-reagent within one or more cages and/or pores of the first catalyst is lower than a rate of diffusion of the intermediate within the one or more cages and/or pores of the first catalyst.

Abstract: An autonomous surface vessel includes an elongate body, and a sampling system operatively coupled to the body and including one or more sampling modules, wherein each sampling module includes a housing including a storage container, a sampling material receivable within the storage container, an actuation system operatively coupled to the sampling material via a lead line, and an end cap operatively coupled to the lead line and matable with an open end of the storage container. A computer system is in communication with the sampling system to operate the actuation system, wherein each sampling module is actuatable between a stowed state, where the sampling material is received within the storage container and the end cap sealingly engages the open end, and a deployed state, where the end cap is disengaged from the open end and the sampling material is drawn out of the sampling container.

Abstract: Processes for removing deposits from a pump-around loop or simply loop. The process can include isolating a first and a second end of the loop in fluid communication with a vessel to provide an isolated section. The isolated section can include a first conduit disposed within a convection section of a steam cracking furnace or a heat exchanger that is external to the steam cracking furnace that can include char therein. The first end can be connected to an aqueous fluid/oxidant source. The second end can be connected to a second conduit disposed within the convection section. An aqueous fluid/oxidant mixture can be introduced into the first end that can be heated by flowing through the isolated section. The heated mixture can flow through the second conduit to produce a second heated mixture that can be introduced into a radiant section of the steam cracking furnace.
