A method of making a nanoparticulate based lubricant is disclosed. The method includes providing solid lubricant material with particles having a size less than or equal to about 500 nanometers, and treating the particles to create composite nanoparticles. The composite nanoparticles includes the solid lubricant material and at least a second material.
Abstract:
The present invention describes use of use of a metal compound to control the quality of a functional fluid. Additionally, the present invention concerns a method for controlling the quality of a functional fluid comprising the steps of: adding a metal compound to a component of a lubricant; mixing the component with a base oil; measuring the concentration of the metal compound in the functional fluid; and comparing the expected concentration of the metal compound with the measured concentration.

Abstract:
A composition comprises a sulphur free reaction product of: (a)(i) a hydrocarbyl substituted aromatic compound containing an acidic group selected from the group consisting of a carboxylic group, a hydroxyl group and mixtures thereof and (a)(ii) an organic nitrogen-containing base reacted with acidic group. The composition is obtained by a preparatory process and is useful in a method for lubricating an internal combustion engine to include where the lubricant has reduced levels of sulphur, phosphorus and sulphated ash.
Abstract:
A composition and method for providing a wear-resistant and fuel-saving coating on metals, particularly metal surfaces within internal combustion engines. A source of ammonium ions, an alkali metal in an aqueous medium, and the coating metal to be applied to the surface are combined to produce an electrolyte solution comprising a complex ion mixture. The electrolyte solution can be used to deposit the coating metal on conductive substrates. The coating metal may comprise phosphorus, sulfur, carbon, bismuth, boron, silicon, and combinations thereof. The electrolyte solution can be dehydrated in a hydrocarbon medium, thus providing novel materials for use as lubricating oil additives and as fuel additives. These new surfaces may significantly reduce coefficient of friction, smooth the flame front, reduce corrosion, enhance fuel economy, and reduce hydrocarbon emissions when used in internal combustion engines.
Abstract:
The object of the present invention is to provide a protective metal-ceramic film having a heterogeneous structure and possessing higher density, wear resistance, a high adhesion to a friction surface and a friction coefficient after running in not higher than 0.03-0.07. The above object is solved by providing a plating concentrate comprising a powdered metallic filler, surfactants, oil soluble dialkyl dithiophosphoric acid metal salts and a basic oil, a mineral filler based on silicates and cyclohexanol at the following ratio of components in % by weight: a powdered metallic filler0.05-20.0 surfactants 0.5-11.0 dialkyl dithiophosphoric acid metal salts 1.0-45.0 a mineral filler based on silicates 1.2-20.0 cyclohexanol0.05-2.0 A mineral filler based on silicates comprises natural minerals from a series of layered hydro silicates such as serpentinite and/or chlorite. Salts of zinc and/or tin and/or molybdenum and/or aluminum and/or copper and/or cadmium are used as dialkyl dithiophosphoric acid metal salts.
Abstract:
The present invention provides new compounds that can be used as antioxidants for either molecules that do not conation ester groups or esters of alcohols that contain two or more ester groups per molecule wherein at least two of the ester groups are on adjacent carbons in the alcohol moiety. Copper ions can enhance the antioxidization activity of the new compounds. Compositions containing one of the new compound and methods of using the new compounds are disclosed.
