Abstract:
The present invention provides recombinant nucleic acid molecules, expression cassettes, and vectors useful for expression of polypeptides, including heterologous polypeptides, such as antigens, in bacteria. Some of the recombinant nucleic acid molecules, expression cassettes and vectors comprise codon-optimized sequences encoding the polypeptides and/or signal peptides. Some of the recombinant nucleic acid molecules, expression cassettes, and expression vectors comprise sequences encoding non-Listerial and/or non-secA1 signal peptides for secretion of the polypeptides. The invention also provides bacteria comprising the nucleic acid molecules, expression cassettes, and expression vectors, as well as compositions such as vaccines comprising the bacteria. Methods of making and using the bacteria, recombinant nucleic acid molecules, and expression cassettes are also provided.
Abstract:
A panel, such as is intended for an aircraft wing panel, has continuous ribs extending on one surface. The panel is formed, or given a dihedral bend, by shot peening the ribs at a V-shaped section to expand the V-shaped sections and thus deform the panel. A strong formed panel is thus provided with continuous ribs. Further shot peening steps can be carried out on the panel for further shaping.
Abstract:
A system and method for authorizing certain aspects of network based transactions between a customer and a merchant is disclosed. At a credit card authorization system, merchant information, transaction information, and a credit card number of a customer is received from an e-commerce merchant. An authorization form at the credit card authorization system that contains the transaction information is created. An internet browser associated with the customer is caused to display the authorization form. A signature phrase is received from the customer via the authorization form. The received signature phrase is verified that it corresponds to a signature phrase stored in a credit card account associated with the credit card number. The internet browser associated with the customer is caused to be transferred to a web site associated with the e-commerce merchant.
Abstract:
A method and system of controlling auto-ignition timing in an internal combustion engine cylinder in which the timing of auto-ignition in prechambers that are coupled to the cylinder is precisely controlled. The auto-ignition in the prechambers produces hot gas jets that are introduced into the charge space of the cylinder and rapidly induce a second auto-ignition of the mixture in the cylinder. By precisely controlling the timing of the auto-ignitions within the prechambers, the timing of the auto-ignition within the cylinders can, in turn, be precisely controlled.
Abstract:
A method of operating a hydraulic system of a loader arm carrying a working implement, the system having a ride improvement system and a selection valve connected to first and second chambers of a ram which operates the loader arm. A check valve assembly is provided, with the check valve assembly being responsive to pressure changes in the second chamber. The check valve assembly, when closed, prevents fluid from passing between the first chamber to the selection valve. Means are provided communicating the fluid pressure in the second chamber to the check valve, with the means responsive to pressure changes in the second chamber to open the check valve. The selection valve is operable to raise the loader arm with the system arranged to permit passage of fluid between the first chamber and the accumulator while permitting fluid to pass from the second chamber to a low pressure region.
Abstract:
A control system for a device, such as an appliance, is designed by storing software representations of pre-existing control panel components (2005) and pre-existing control processes (2010) on a computer, using the computer to develop a control panel for the device by selecting and placing software representations of pre-existing control panel objects in a software representation of the control panel (2015), and using the computer to develop control software for the device by selecting software representations of pre-existing control processes and associating the selected control processes with the selected control panel objects (2020). The control software then is downloaded from the computer to control hardware to be included in the device (2025). Finally, the device is tested using the control software running on the control hardware and under the control of the computer (2030). A system (2100) for designing a control system for a device (2105) includes a computer (2110) having an input unit (2115), an output unit (2120), a processor (2125), a storage device (2130) on which the software representations (2140) are stored, and a display (2135) on which a representation of the control panel is presented. The system also includes control hardware (2145) connected to active components (2150) of the device (2105) and operable to receive data from the output unit (2120) of the computer (2110). The processor (2125) is programmed to generate the control system in the manner discussed above.
Abstract:
Methods and compositions for treating pathogens in material are described, including methods of decontaminating human fluids prior to processing in the clinical laboratory and methods for decontaminating blood products prior to in vivo use. The techniques handle large volumes of human serum without impairing the testing results. Novel compounds for photodecontaminating biological material are also contemplated which are compatible with clinical testing, in that they do not interfere with serum analytes.

The techniques handle large volumes of human serum without impairing the testing results. Novel compounds for photodecontaminating biological material are also contemplated which are compatible with clinical testing, in that they do not interfere with serum analytes. In particular, quinacrine mustard is used to inactivate pathogens in red cell compositions with retention of red cell function.
