Abstract:
A highly reliable digital level sensor assembly is provided to replace optical and capacitance type sensors in high purity chemical delivery systems. The digital level sensor assembly is particularly useful in bulk chemical refill delivery systems for high purity chemicals employing a manifold that ensures contamination free operation and canister change outs with a minimum of valves and tubing.
Abstract:
A method for the preparation of optical ferrules containing cylindrical members utilizes a guide receiving the cylindrical member, a sleeve receiving a piston therethrough, and a pin extending into the sleeve. The method also includes biasing to position the piston, using fill gates to dispense polymer into a defined cavity, and employing a containment which secures the components together. Injection molded optical fiber ferrules made according to the apparatus and process exhibit superior properties.
Abstract:
Glass-fibre reinforced plastic tank, for example for liquid petroleum gas under high pressure, compressed air for air brakes or for storage of acetylene. The tank is composed of two halves (10, 12), the open ends of which are conically bevelled to form a male end (20) and a female end (22), which are joined to each other by an adhesive. The reinforcement in the outer and inner layers of the halves contains essentially longitudinal glass-fibre strands and the intermediate layer contains essentially transverse glass-fibre strands. In the half with the male end (20), the longitudinal glass-fibre strands in the inner layer (35) are densely located adjacent to each other, while the longitudinal glass-fibre strands in the outer layer lie in separate groups (30) of densely arranged glass-fibre strands with the predetermined spacing between the groups to form channel-shaped spaces (31). In the half with the female end (22), the order is reverse. In order to store acetylene, a pre-fabricated absorbent body of porous material is enclosed in the tank when the tank halves are glued together.
Abstract:
A cylinder lifter is disclosed that provides a safe and easy way to load gas-filled cylinders into a lifter and to transport the cylinders vertically overhead. The lifter has a flat bottom plate to facilitate the loading of a cylinder thereon. Extending vertically from the flat bottom plate is a semicircular frame that encompasses the cylinder when resting on the flat bottom plate. The lifter has two releasable locking devices to secure the cylinder in the lifter. To accommodate transportation of the loaded lifter overhead, an engageable lift bar extends from the top of the frame.
Abstract:
A sleeve label for application to the peripheral exterior of an article such as a gas cylinder, including a flexible label sleeve having a circumference and a central axis, and first and second portions parallel to its axis and extending the length of the label sleeve; an elongated, stiff strip having first and second edges extending the length of the strip, and having an inner face and an outer face; the first sleeve portion being attached to the strip to extend from and be flexible about the first edge of the strip, and the second sleeve portion being attached to the strip to extend from the inner face at a location intermediate the edges of the strip; the strip being on the exterior of the label sleeve, with the second edge of the strip and the outer face of the strip being exposed; the strip being pivotable about its first edge to flex the sleeve at and about the first edge of the strip to turn the outer face of the strip inwardly against the label sleeve and simultaneously pull a segment of the sleeve outwardly of the strip, and thereby decrease the circumference of the sleeve; and securing means such as adhesive for securing the outer face of the strip to the sleeve. The adhesive may be pressure sensitive adhesive and include a removable protective cover over the adhesive. The sleeve preferably has a nonslip polymeric material on its inner face, most preferably in a dot matrix of protrusions to interfit with surface roughness of a gas cylinder or the like.
Abstract:
The invention in its preferred embodiment is a portable life support system for use in warm water diving providing temperature regulation and breathable atmosphere through cryogenic technology while maintaining neutral buoyancy and trim throughout zero-gravity simulation. The portable life support system comprises: a liquid cooled garment; an externally charged, positive expulsion dewar for storing and delivering liquid cryogen; means for circulating liquid cryogen from said dewar in heat exchange relation with the cooling liquid so as to cool the wearer of the garment and vaporize the liquid cryogen; and means forming a semi-closed breathing loop for delivering breathable gas obtained from the vaporized cryogen from said circulating means to the wearer of said garment for breathing purposes.
Abstract:
The invention in its preferred embodiment is a portable life support system providing the wearer of a garment with temperature regulation and a breathable atmosphere using cryogenic technology. Wherein a liquid cryogen is vaporized by heat exchange with the wearers body and the vaporized cryogen is delivered to the wearer as a breathable atmosphere.
Abstract:
A level sensing apparatus for detecting variations in heat transfer for measuring the level of a fluid in a container. The apparatus has a plurality of spaced Darlington pair transistor configurations within an elongate housing. The Darlington pair transistor configurations are so positioned in the housing and biased such that their conductivity is dependent upon the cooling effects of the fluid. A predetermined potential difference is provided across each one of the respective Darlington pair transistor configurations due to the cooling effects of the fluid when in a liquid form. A potential difference lower than the pre-determined potential difference is provided due to the cooling effects of the fluid when in a gaseous form.
Abstract:
A protective apparatus for a pressurized breathing vessel consists of a protective valving member and carrying member. The protective valving member is a rigid member with apertures that allow the gauge and top of the pressurized vessel to be accessible. It also has a slot that extends from the bottom and hook and loop material for attachment to the carrying member. The carrying member is flexible and has mating hook and loop material for attaching the member to the protective valving member. When the carrying member is wrapped tightly around the protective member the slot decreases in size and the protective valving member is held securely to the pressurized breathing vessel.
Abstract:
An information tag holder for use on the screw-threaded neck of a gas cylinder is made from a plastic sheet which has at least two thread-engagement portions with cut-outs for frictionally engaging over the screw-threads, and a tag supporting surface between the thread-engagement portions. In use, the holder is folded transversely, so that the cut-outs in the respective portions are in register and the holder is applied in this manner to the cylinder. The respective thread-engagement portions are differently dimensioned so that when the cut-outs are in register, the tag supporting surface is inclined.
