Abstract:
Apparatus and methods for fabricating a container structure such as a flower pot cover. The invention comprises a frame supporting a reciprocating mandrel and a feed bed, said feed bed having an aperture positioned such that said reciprocating mandrel reciprocates into and out of said aperture; a roller for feeding a substrate across said feed bed and aperture; a die fixed to said frame in proximity to said aperture, said die cutting a form from said substrate, said form having a central section and a plurality of surrounding sections created by a plurality of radial slits cut by said die, said radial slits extending outward from said central section, each of said surrounding sections folding to form a sidewall of said container structure when said reciprocating mandrel pushes said cut form through said aperture; and ultrasonic weld heads for sealing said sidewalls so as to form a container a flower pot cover.
Abstract:
An apparatus and process for fabricating belts wherein the leading edge of a web is conveyed from a supply roll in a straight path a predetermined first distance from a web receiving platform having a cutting edge, the web is cut at the cutting edge to form a web segment having the leading edge at one end and a trailing edge at the opposite end, the leading edge is conveyed a predetermined second distance in an downstream direction to form slack in the web, the lower surface of the web adjacent the trailing edge is inverted, the lower surface of the web adjacent the leading edge is inverted, the leading edge and the trailing edge are overlapped to form a lap joint on the upper surface of an elongated anvil having a centerline positioned substantially perpendicular to the straight path of the web to form a loop of the web segment loosely suspended from the joint formed by the overlapped leading edge and trailing edge, the loop of the web segment on the anvil is conveyed along either an arcuate path to position the joint substantially parallel to the direction of the straight path or conveyed vertically while maintaining the centerline of the anvil positioned substantially perpendicular to the straight path of the web, the lap joint is welded on the anvil to form a belt welded at the joint, the loop of the web segment on the anvil is conveyed in a direction opposite the previous direction until it has returned to its previous position, and the belt is removed from the anvil.
Abstract:
An improved construction for an air perimeter support for the marginal perimeter of a waterbed mattress, and the method for manufacturing such improved air perimeter support. The improved air perimeter support includes a first sheet of flexible, substantially dimensionally stable material folded back on itself and joined together at a location spaced from the longitudinal marginal side edges thereof to form an elongated chamber, of substantially rectangular cross-section, intermediate the marginal side edges. One longitudinal marginal side edge is again folded back and joined to the chamber at the wall opposite the wall formed by the other longitudinal marginal side edge. A second sheet of flexible, substantially dimensionally stable material, is located in the interior of the elongated chamber and joined to at least three adjacent walls of the chamber starting with the the wall to which the one longitudinal marginal side edge is joined and going around said chamber opposite to the fold of the one longitudinal marginal side edge.
Abstract:
A fluid packaging means comprises tubular side walls and end walls disposed at the ends thereof, forming a bottom and a top, wherein the top comprises thermoplastic material without a carrier material, is injection moulded to the outer edge of the tube along that edge and has a pouring means, and the bottom is quadrangular and has triangular flaps which are folded over to lie against at least one adjacent panel. In order to provide such a packaging means with a particularly advantageous bottom, the invention proposes that at least two mutually oppositely disposed triangular flaps of the bottom are folded inwardly into the plane of the bottom or outwardly on to the side wall, about the lower edge between the bottom and the side wall, and fixed in that position.
Abstract:
Apparatus for forming a disc envelope from a prepunched, flexible, plastic blank having two sections connected at the heads thereof and containing a drive hole at the same location in each section. The drive holes are located on respective hubs which are located at the same position on respective folding plates. The end edge of a mandrel is pressed against the blank in the area between the two sections while the folding plates are moved from a horizontal to a vertical position pulling the drive holes taut on the hubs and thereby locating the center fold between the two sections of the blank flap folding apparatus and sealing apparatus are attached to and swing into operating position with the respective folding plates to form the side flap folds and seal the folded flaps.
Abstract:
An apparatus for heat sealing together layers of strap of thermoplastics material, wherein at least one thin flat electrical heating element is supported under tension and between the layers of strap and the layers of strap are pressed together with a fusing pressure by at least one resilient pressure pad. The heating element, a support for the heating element and the resilient pressure pad form a heating and fusing assembly which is moved in unison relative to the layers of strap so that in use, the heating element moves between the two layers of strap generally in a longitudinal direction thereof.
Abstract:
Fabric loops, intended for attachment to articles of clothing for example, are fabricated from a tape the free end of which is sequentially formed into a loops which are permanently closed. To form the loops, a continuous tape is delivered into a track which doubles back on itself whereby the advancing free tape end will overlap a portion of the tape, and the tape will subsequently be cut and the overlapping portions bonded together to complete a loop.
Abstract:
A brassiere pad is formed by providing two cones, each consisting of batting and having a seam extending from the cone apex to its periphery; nesting the cones to orient the seams in selected non-superposed position; and applying heat and pressure to the cones to effect their compression to final pad shape and interconnection through curing of a bonding agent.
Abstract:
A process and apparatus is disclosed for thermoforming an all plastic carton used to house a fluid with integral, kidney-shaped depressions in adjacent side walls of the carton to serve as handle members to aid in pouring the fluid contents from the carton. A pair of mandrels are inserted through opposite ends of a tubular enclosure formed from the carton blank. The mandrels are provided with a toroidal shaped cavity where they meet inside the enclosure. The enclosure is heated and a pair of complementally shaped, dies are rotated exteriorly of the enclosure into the toroidal cavity in the mandrels on adjacent sidewalls of the carton to form the handle depressions.
Abstract:
A method for making an axially extendable and contractable bellows is provided for use in monolayer photographic lithographic cameras and enlargers. The method includes the initial step of passing a single web of synthetic resin sheet material past at least one die having die edges arranged in a predetermined pattern for producing a separable bellows blank having fold lines formed therein for forming of multiplicity of pleats. Then the bellows blank is die formed and following its separation from the web it is folded onto itself to produce a seam which is then bonded. Finally, the hollow body thus formed is compressed along its longitudinal axis and along the fold lines so as to produce a pleated bellows configuration.
