摘要: A water hammer arrester and a process for making a water hammer arrester. The arrester includes a includes a cylindrical tube that contains a sliding piston separating the interior into a gas portion and a liquid portion. The gas portion is enclosed by a cap. The liquid portion has a pipe fitting for connection to a liquid-carrying pipe. The process includes assembling the piston, cylinder, fitting, and cap together outside of a pressured chamber used to charge the gas portion. A pressure chamber receives the cap and open end of the cylinder, and tabs around the cap allow fluid flow into the gas portion of the cylinder. Increasing gas pressure in the pressure chamber simultaneously increases gas pressure inside the gas portion. At this raised pressure, an ultrasonic welding horn engages the cap and/or cylinder to weld the two together trapping the gas therein under pressure.

摘要: A wafer bonding method includes: holding a first substrate with an upper holding mechanism 7 by applying a voltage to the upper holding mechanism 7; generating a bonded substrate by bonding the first substrate and a second substrate held with a lower holding mechanism 8; and dechucking the bonded substrate from the upper holding mechanism 7 after a voltage which attenuates while alternating is applied to the upper holding mechanism 7. By applying the voltage which attenuates while alternating to the upper holding mechanism 7, residual attracting force between the bonded substrate and the upper holding mechanism 7 is reduced, thereby enabling the bonded substrate to be dechucked from the holding mechanism more surely in a shorter time period. As a result, the first substrate and the second substrate can be bonded in a shorter time period.

摘要: The present invention provides apparatus and methods for growing fullerene nanotube forests, and forming nanotube films, threads and composite structures therefrom. In some embodiments, an interior-flow substrate includes a porous surface and one or more interior passages that provide reactant gas to an interior portion of a densely packed nanotube forest as it is growing. In some embodiments, a continuous-growth furnace is provided that includes an access port for removing nanotube forests without cooling the furnace substantially. In other embodiments, a nanotube film can be pulled from the nanotube forest without removing the forest from the furnace. A nanotube film loom is described. An apparatus for building layers of nanotube films on a continuous web is described.

摘要: The invention relates to a system and a method for performing a manufacturing operation at a predetermined position relative to a first path. The system includes a plurality of first elements mounted for movement relative to the first path. The first elements have a plurality of motion parameters which are independently controllable. Active elements are operatively associated with reactive elements to produce relative movement between the first elements and the first path, with the active elements controlling the relative movement. A controller controls the activation of the active elements and a first tool is associated with each first element for performing at least part of the manufacturing operation. The system may also include at least one second element and a second path. The method includes the steps of mounting a plurality of first carriages for movement relative to a first path, operatively associating a plurality of active elements with at least one reactive element to produce relative movement between the first carriages and the path, associating a first tool with each first carriage for performing at least part of the manufacturing process, and controlling the activation of the active elements.

摘要: In a welding apparatus of the type including a pair of opposing press plates relatively movable toward and away each other and each supporting a molded article to be welded together, and a heating plate movable into and out of a space between separated molded articles for fusing confronting surfaces of the molded articles whereby the molded articles are welded together by applying pressure thereto by the press plates, there are provided mold frames on the press plates. The mold frames define an opening having substantially the same contour as the molded articles to be welded together but having a slightly smaller size than the molded article. The inner surface of the opening is provided with an outwardly inclined surface.
