Abstract:
A method and apparatus for mechanically splicing a pair of optic fibers or optic cables, the mechanical splice comprising: a ferrule having an axial capillary bore, the capillary bore configured to enclose the optic fibers at both ends of the ferrule; and cured epoxy disposed to secure together the ends of the optic fibers and to secure the optic fibers to an inside surface of the capillary bore, the ferrule optionally enclosed in a metal tube.
Abstract:
The present disclosure relates to the performing spectral calibration of a CT imaging system. In accordance with certain embodiments, spectral calibration phantoms are scanned while positioned on a table in the imaging volume of the CT imaging system. The scans of the calibration phantoms, in conjunction with air sans performed on the CT imaging system, are used to derive information about the deviation of the measured phantom scans from an ideal. The deviation information is in turn used to derive spectral calibration vectors that may be used with the CT imaging system.
Abstract:
The present invention discloses an optical fiber collimator suitable for coupling optical radiation from an optical fiber to an optical device, the optical fiber collimator comprising: a graded-index multi-mode fiber segment for receiving optical radiation transmitted by the input optical fiber; an optional mode field device, and a collimating lens for receiving optical radiation transmitted by the graded-index multi-mode fiber segment, the collimating lens for coupling the optical radiation into the optical device.
Abstract:
A method and system for identifying documents relevant to a query that specifies a part of speech is provided. A retrieval system receives from a user an input query that includes a word and a part of speech. Upon receiving an input query that includes a word and a part of speech, the retrieval system identifies documents with a sentence that includes that word collocated with a word that is used as that part of speech. The retrieval system displays to the user an indication of the identified documents.
Abstract:
The claimed subject matter provides systems and/or techniques that effectuate combining domain-tuned search systems. The system can include mechanisms that obtain queries, written descriptions, or illustrative web-pages regarding a particular area of interest, and generate a definition related to the area of interest. The definition contains a list of paths with associated weights employed to identify an pre-established first domain-tuned search system related to the area of interest. The first domain-tuned search system thereafter can be combined with a second domain-tuned search system related to another area of interest and presented to a user for utilization in re-ranking generic search results to be specific to the first and second domains of interest if combined, or to only the first domain if weights for the second domain are logically subtracted.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a magnetic therapy and a physiotherapeutic device performing such a magnetic therapy. The therapy involves the application of magnetism which provides a transient penetration of magnetic flux by means of a magnetic field scanning of a whole human body or a portion thereof in a three-dimensional gradient magnetic field. The physiotherapeutic treatment device comprises (1) a bed; (2) two magnets straddling on either side of the bed; (3) a mechanical-electrical transmission system; and (4) an electric control system. Therapeutic and health-care effect is achieved by means of magnetic field scanning of the human body with the body lying on the bed facing upward while the two magnets, at properly adjusted heights and actuated by the control panel, move horizontally along the human body receiving the treatment. Clinical tests demonstrate that this invention has remarkable therapeutic effects upon the treatment of a variety of disorders.
Abstract:
A monoclonal antibody that binds to an extracellular domain of human receptor-type protein tyrosine phosphatase σ (human PTPRS), or a fragment including an antigen-binding region thereof.
Abstract:
This invention relates to long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs), libraries of those ncRNAs that bind chromatin modifiers, such as Polycomb Repressive Complex 2, inhibitory nucleic acids and methods and compositions for targeting lncRNAs.
Abstract:
The present disclosure provides a micro-machined switchable optical mirror device with a fast response speed. The mirror device includes a substrate defining a gap space, and a mirror assembly disposed on the substrate and deflectable in the gap space, the mirror assembly including a free end cantilever and a reflector on the cantilever, wherein the cantilever is anchored on the substrate adjacent a side of the gap space through an elastic member. In one aspect, the mirror device further includes a stop spring at an end of the cantilever opposing the elastic member.
Abstract:
A bow shaped, sheet-thin, carbon fiber spring that utilizes the material's special characteristics is disclosed. Carbon fiber filaments are laid along the bow curvature. Cushions made of carbon fiber composite springs provide performance improvements in better shock absorption, lighter weight, better fire safety, and longer life without performance degradation. Example embodiments are shoes, helmets, and seats.
