摘要： An improved embolectomy catheter, includes a catheter body, an elastomeric foam catheter tip attached at one end of the catheter body, and actuator means for elastically deforming the catheter tip. The catheter tip deforms longitudinally and radially in response to activation of the actuation means. The catheter tip may be formed of any type of sterile elastomeric foam, which may be easily compressed and restored to its original shape upon decompression.

The individual segments can then be used to accomplish both diagnostic and therapeutic functions. Communication with the discrete segments will typically be accomplished through a microprocessor and associated switching circuits.

The shaft assembly extends from the handle assembly and further includes an outer tube and an inner actuation rod that slides coaxially with the outer tube. The shaft assembly includes a rotatable knob to provide 360° rotation. The actuation rod has a proximal end and a distal end; the proximal end has a ball end that couples with the pivoting handle to form a rotatable ball-and-socket joint. The outer tube is formed of plastic and fits over the actuation rod to function as an electrical insulator.

An elongate shaft carries a first jaw, and a second opposing jaw moveable relative to the first jaw. At least one penetrating member is carried by the first jaw and moveable relative to the second jaw to create a channel through the first piece of material and the second piece of material. A source of heat is coupled to the penetrating member for denaturing the tissue defining the channel. This denatured tissue forms a column binding the first piece of tissue to the second piece of tissue. A chemical agent can be carried to the tissue with the penetrating member.

摘要： A catheter facilitating traversal of restrictions in body conduits includes a shaft having a distal tip with a shape that is non-conical, radially twisted, and rectangular in radial cross section. An outer surface of the tip includes at least one side section extending from a blunt point radially outwardly with progressive positions proximally along an axis of the tip. The side section includes a proximal portion in proximity to the shaft, and a distal portion twisted radially with respect to the proximal portion. The catheter can be adapted for placement over a guidewire and can be made transparent thereby facilitating visualization through an endoscope in the catheter.

摘要： In electrosurgical system includes an electrosurgical generator providing power through an electrode, and a laser providing laser energy through an optical fiber. The electrode optical fiber and a source of environmental gas can all be included in a handpiece, catheter or other delivery device. In operation, the environmental gas can be released into the vicinity of an operative site and the laser activated to energize atoms along a pathway. Electrosurgical power can then be applied to ionize the items of the atoms of the pathway and create a path of least resistance for an electrosurgical arc. A reduction in the laser power required can be achieved by matching the photon frequency of the laser with the excitation frequency of the environmental gas. In a laparoscopic procedure, the insufflation gas may be used as the environmental gas.
