Abstract: A family of new crystalline molecular sieves designated SSZ-91 is disclosed, as are methods for making SSZ-91 and uses for SSZ-91. Molecular sieve SSZ-91 is structurally similar to sieves falling within the ZSM-48 family of molecular sieves, and is characterized as: (1) having a low degree of faulting, (2) a low aspect ratio that inhibits hydrocracking as compared to conventional ZSM-48 materials having an aspect ratio of greater than 8, and (3) is substantially phase pure.

Abstract: Processes and catalyst systems are provided for dewaxing a hydrocarbon feedstock to form a lubricant base oil. A layered catalyst system of the present invention may comprise a first hydroisomerization dewaxing catalyst disposed upstream from a second hydroisomerization dewaxing catalyst. Each of the first and second hydroisomerization dewaxing catalysts may be selective for the isomerization of n-paraffins. The first hydroisomerization catalyst may have a higher level of selectivity for the isomerization of n-paraffins than the second hydroisomerization dewaxing catalyst. At least one of the first and second hydroisomerization dewaxing catalysts comprises small crystallite zeolite SSZ-32x.

Abstract: An improved hydrotreating catalyst and process for making a base oil product. The catalyst comprises a base extrudate of a high nanopore volume amorphous silica alumina (ASA) and alumina. The catalyst and process use a high nanopore volume ASA/alumina based catalyst to produce hydrotreated dewaxed base oil products from a hydrocarbon feedstock. The base extrudate comprises ASA having a pore volume in the 11-20 nm pore diameter range of 0.2 to 0.9 cc/g and an alumina having a pore volume in the 11-20 nm pore diameter range of 0.01 to 1.0 cc/g. The base extrudate formed has a total pore volume in the 2-50 nm pore diameter range of 0.12 to 1.80 cc/g. The catalyst further comprises at least one modifier element from Groups 6 to 10 and Group 14 of the Periodic Table. The catalyst and process provide improved aromatics saturation.

Abstract: An improved hydrotreating catalyst and process for making a base oil product wherein the catalyst comprises a base extrudate that includes a high nanopore volume amorphous silica alumina (ASA) and a second amorphous silica alumina. The catalyst and process generally involve the use of a base extrudate comprising the high nanopore volume ASA and the second ASA in a catalyst to produce hydrotreated dewaxed base oil products by contacting the catalyst with a hydrocarbon feedstock. The catalyst base extrudate advantageously comprises a first amorphous silica alumina having a pore volume in the 11-20 nm pore diameter range of 0.2 to 1.0 cc/g and a second amorphous silica alumina having a pore volume in the 11-20 nm pore diameter range of 0.02 to 0.2 cc/g, with the base extrudate formed from the amorphous silica alumina and the alumina having a total pore volume in the 2-50 nm pore diameter range of 0.12 to 1.80 cc/g. The catalyst further comprises at least one modifier element from Groups 6 to 10 and Group 14 of the Periodic Table. The catalyst and process provide improved aromatics saturation.

Abstract: A process for preparing a base oil from a waxy hydrocarbon feedstock is provided. The process comprises passing the hydrocarbon feedstock to a distillation column prior to dewaxing in order to recover a heavy wax cut. The heavy wax is then hydrocracked to lower boiling compounds which can be better isomerized to a base oil with an acceptable cloud point. The base oil yield is also increased.

An integrated refinery process unit for making heavy base oils, comprising: a. an aromatic extraction unit fluidly connected to a solvent dewaxing unit and a hydroprocessing unit; b. a first line from the aromatic extraction unit, that feeds an aromatic extract to a second hydrocarbon feed to make a mixed feed having greater than 2,000 wt ppm sulfur; and c. a connection that feeds the mixed feed to the hydroprocessing unit.

Abstract: Provided is a process for preparing base oil from a waxy hydrocarbon feedstock by contacting the hydrocarbon feedstock in a hydroisomerization zone under hydroisomerization conditions. The reaction is in the presence of hydrogen and an inert gas, with the total pressure in the hydroisomerization zone being at least 400 psig. A product from the hydroisomerization zone is collected and separated into base oil products and fuel products. The inert gas can comprise any suitable inert gas, but is generally nitrogen, methane or argon. Nitrogen is used in one embodiment.
