Abstract: A system for a non-hybrid vehicle is provided. The system includes an electromagnetic device structured to couple to an engine and generate AC electrical power from the engine. The system also includes an AC-to-DC inverter structured to receive and change the AC electrical power to regulated DC electrical power. Additionally, the system includes an electrical path coupled to the AC-to-DC inverter and configured to provide the regulated DC electrical power directly to an electrically-powered accessory at or above 28 volts DC.

Abstract: A method of controlling a vehicle accessory includes determining a transmission of a vehicle is in a non-park setting; in response to determining the transmission of the vehicle is in the non-park setting, receiving speed data indicative of a speed of the vehicle; determining a speed to operate the vehicle accessory based on the vehicle speed; comparing the determined speed to operate the vehicle accessory to a speed threshold; and in response to determining that the determined speed is below the speed threshold, providing a command to the vehicle accessory to one of deactivate the vehicle accessory or operate the vehicle accessory at a reduced operating state relative to a current operating state of the vehicle accessory.

The controller further includes an operating condition management module that interprets a threshold temperature value, and an engine management module that provides an engine operation command to continue engine operation in response to the temperature value being at least equal to the threshold temperature value.

Abstract: A climate control system for vehicles includes an internal combustion engine that may be coupled to selectively power a first motor generator, and an air conditioning compressor that may be selectively powered by one or both of the first motor generator and a second motor generator, or by the internal combustion engine. The system may include a rechargeable battery, and a vehicle controller having a vehicle state circuit structured to determine a vehicle operating condition value and a state-of-charge value of the rechargeable battery, and a coupling determination circuit structured to provide an internal combustion engine-first motor generator coupling command in response to the vehicle operating condition value and the state-of-charge value. In response to the internal combustion engine-first motor generator coupling command being provided as coupled, the internal combustion engine may power the first motor generator.
