Abstract: A vehicle system for a vehicle includes a vehicle processor for storing vehicle data including vehicle location, vehicle event data, and vehicle mode. The vehicle system also includes a server communicatively coupled to the vehicle processor. The server is configured to determine if a transport mode has been selected based on one or more of the vehicle mode or the vehicle location. The server is also configured to determine if a current battery change is above a state-of-charge limitation based on the vehicle event data. Additionally, the server is configured to activate the transport mode if the current battery charge is below the state-of-charge limitation.

Abstract: An apparatus for managing gases produced by batteries includes a battery case housing multiple battery cells, each with a vent for releasing pressurized gas. A thermal barrier layer is positioned beside the cells with sacrificial regions matching the vent count. On the other side of the barrier, a vent gas conduit collects gas from any venting cell through the sacrificial region, then directs it outside the battery case into the surrounding environment.

Abstract: A battery module, in accordance with a non-limiting example, includes a module housing including a plurality of walls defining an interior, and a plurality of battery cells arranged in the interior. Each of the plurality of battery cells includes a vent. A vent manifold is connected to each of the plurality of battery cells. The vent manifold includes a central passage fluidically connected to the vent in each of the plurality of battery cells and a fluid inlet that selectively allows passage of an amount of fluid into select ones of the plurality of battery cells.

Abstract: A rechargeable energy storage system includes a battery having a plurality of cells. The battery pack includes a first end, a second end, a first side, and a second side, an upper surface, and a lower surface. A battery support includes a support surface supporting the plurality of cells. The support surface has a first end portion, a second end portion, a first side portion and a second side portion. A ventilation member is arranged below the battery support between the first side portion and the second side. The ventilation member includes a surface section, and a plurality of wall members that project outwardly of the surface section. The plurality of wall members define a plurality of ventilation channels.

The cell can includes a thermally responsive fluid inlet that selectively exposes the interior portion of the cell can to the amount of fluid contained in the interior of the module housing.

Abstract: A thermal management system for one or more components of a vehicle includes one or more heat generating components, and one or more compartments to contain the one or more heat generating components. One or more vent openings are located in the one or more compartments. Each vent opening of the one or more vent openings are closed by a thermally active material, such that when exhaust gas from the one or more components interacts with the thermally active material, the one or more vent openings are opened allowing for removal of the exhaust gas from the compartment. One or more vent manifolds are located adjacent to the one or more vent openings. The one or more vent manifolds are configured to direct the exhaust gas to ambient through one or more manifold openings in the one or more vent manifolds.
