A suture retainer for use with a surgical instrument comprises a slot defined in the surgical instrument, the slot having a bottom and lateral slot ends. A retainer block comprises a bottom and lateral block ends. The lateral block ends and the lateral slot ends are configured to matingly engage to define a v-shaped gap adjacent a lateral slot end near a mouth of the slot.

An adhesive sheet is prepared by coextruding a thermoplastic adhesive material such as a thermoplastic polyurethane and a polymeric material such as a polyolefin that forms a polymeric expendable layer. A process for making a multi-layer impact resistant glass composite made up of alternating glass and plastic layers involves interposing the adhesive sheet between the glass layer and the plastic layer, removing at least one polymeric expendable layer from the adhesive sheet, and pressing the layers together to adhere the glass layer to the plastic layer. In alternate embodiments, the adhesive sheet may be provided as a co-extruded A-B composite sheet or as an A-B-A 3-layer composite sheet.

The present invention provides a reticle 100 for use in a lithographic process. The reticle, in one embodiment, includes a patterned layer 110 located over a reticle substrate. The reticle 100 may further include a test pattern 130 located over the reticle substrate, wherein a portion of the test pattern 130 is within a step-distance of a portion of the patterned layer. In this embodiment, a variance in the test pattern is indicative of a variance in the patterned layer.

A deflectable stylet is comprised of a hollow tube with a reduced diameter distal portion including a semi-cylindrical ground portion to provide localized flexure wherein tension is applied to an axial tension wire fixed to the distal end of the hollow tube. The hollow tube is coupled to a rotationally fixed tip coupled to a rotationally fixed handle body. The handle body and the tip are telescoped longitudinally with respect to each other along the longitudinal axis of the hollow tube by means of a rotatable nut that advances out of or backs the handle into the tip. The tension wire is coupled to the handle body so that when the nut is rotated in a first direction and the handle body backed out, tension is applied to the wire which is then withdrawn from the hollow tube fixed to the tip causing the stylet to curve at its distal end. Rotation of the nut in the opposite direction reduces the tension on the wire causing the stylet to straighten at its distal end. By this means fine, micrometer adjustments of the curvature of the stylet are reliably and repeatedly made. A conical tip of the handle is coupled to the catheter and provides stress relief to the stylet. The tip is freely rotatable with respect to the handle, but can be locked to the terminal pin of the catheter so that an active fixation pacemaker lead is activatable by rotation of the tip.

A structural panel has one or more face sheets bonded by adhesive layers to a core body having two outer plastic liner sheets fusion-bonded to linear ends of inner plastic truss elements spaced apart with open spaces therebetween extending in a plane direction of the plastic liner sheets. The sheet-to-sheet adhesive bonding provides a high-strength laminate bonding that is very resistant to delamination, simple and inexpensive, and can be carried out by a preferred continuous sheet bonding technique. The all-plastic core body is highly resistant to moisture attack, and the open spaces between truss elements provide flexibility to accommodate thermal expansion and contraction. The truss construction of the core body provides high compressive and shear strength, while minimizing the amount of material required to be used. In one preferred embodiment, two metal face sheets are used, and the core body has plastic liner sheets fusion-bonded to a corrugated plastic core sheet. The corrugated plastic core sheet can be formed by a continuous plastic extrusion technique. Diagonal plastic webs or perpendicular plastic I-beams may also be used for the truss elements. Another preferred embodiment has two metal face sheets bonded to two plastic core bodies which in turn are bonded to a center foam core layer. A further embodiment has only one metal face sheet bonded to one side of the plastic core body, allowing it to be used as veneer or curved around rounded structures.
