    摘要: An umbilicus conveys fluid between a stationary body and a rotating body in a small, compact operating environment. The umbilicus comprises an elongated body including a proximal end, a distal end, and a middle region between the proximal and distal ends. A first support block is attached to the proximal end. A second support block is attached to the distal end. The first support block includes a strain relief sleeve. The umbilicus is otherwise free of any other strain relief sleeve. A thrust bearing member in the middle region spaced apart from the strain relief sleeve and the distal end. The umbilicus is otherwise free of any other thrust bearing member. The thrust bearing member has an inner annular body, an outer annular body about the inner annular body, and an array of ball bearings between the inner and outer annular bodies. The ball bearings support the inner annular body for rotation relative to the outer annular body.

    摘要: A cassette serves in association with one or more peristaltic pumps to centralize pumping, valving, and pressure sensing functions. The cassette includes a housing having first and second pump ports. A flexible tubing loop extends between the first and second pump ports outside the housing for engagement with an external peristaltic pump element. A liquid port on the housing attaches to a length of tubing that also extends outside the housing. Liquid passages within the housing that establish communication among the liquid port, the first pump port, and the second pump port. Valve stations formed within the housing are responsive to the application of external force for controlling liquid flow through the liquid passages. A sensing chamber is formed within the housing along at least one liquid passage. The sensing chamber transmits information regarding liquid pressure present within the one liquid passage to an external sensing element.

    摘要: Methods are disclosed for collecting and separating whole blood into one or more components. A disposable blood separation fluid circuit is provided which is adapted to cooperate with a reusable separation controller. The fluid circuit includes a fluid flow path for communication with a blood source and at least one container in fluid communication with the fluid flow path. The fluid flow path is connected to a blood source and quantities of whole blood are collected in the container and one other location within the fluid circuit. The source is then disconnected from the disposable fluid circuit. The quantities of whole blood are centrifugally processed, with processing of at least a portion of one of the quantities beginning after the source is disconnected from the fluid circuit.

    摘要: An apparatus comprises an inlet to convey a first fluid comprising first and second components having different density into a rotating chamber such that an interface forms between at least portions of such components at a first location. At least one outlet removes at least one of the first and second components. A controller is adapted to introduce the first fluid and is operable to move the interface from the first location to a second location and to move the interface from the second location in a direction toward the first location and to return the interface to the second location. The controller is operable to determine a flow rate of the first or second component based, at least in part, on the time interval between when the interface moves from and returns to the second location. At least one sensing assembly is adapted to sense the location of the interface.

    摘要: A second stage diving regulator of the type used by scuba divers is provided. The regulator comprises a regulator housing and a mouthpiece. The regulator housing includes an inhalation chamber having a port, and a demand valve that releases air to the port in response to inhalation through the port. The mouthpiece comprises a unitary housing attachable to the regulator housing and includes a one-way exhalation pathway, thus obviating the need for an exhalation pathway in the regulator housing itself. Inhalation no-return valves can be additionally incorporated into the fluid pathway from the regulator housing to the diver to prevent fluids from flowing into the regulator housing through the mouthpiece. Saliva and exhaled air with its attendant moistures and pathogenic entities can thus be prevented from entering the regulator housing. The mouthpiece can be made easily detachable and can be sanitized between uses, making it particularly well suited for rental and instructional purposes. The disclosed invention keeps the interior spaces of the regulator clean and dry even when the regulator is not in place in the diver's mouth, thus extending regulator life and preventing a dangerous and irritating free-flow condition from occurring due to icing when used in cold water. The mouthpiece can be variously constructed to differentiate common-use mouthpieces from those owned individually.
