摘要： A cable termination assembly comprises a shielded electrical cable or cables including plural wire conductors and an electrical shield or shields therefor, an electrical bus electrically connected to the cable shield or shields, a housing for supporting therein plural electrical contacts and the bus, a printed circuit board electrically connecting the contacts to the respective wire conductors, an electrical shield attached to and at least partly surrounding the housing, the housing including a wire management comb including plural slots for positioning at least some of the wire conductors in a predetermined arrangement for electrical connection to the printed circuit board and an electrically non-conductive body molded directly to the cable or cables, comb, bus and contacts to form a unified structure therewith, and the bus having a portion thereof extending externally of the molded body and electrically connected to the housing shield. Also disclosed is another cable termination assembly including a conductor-contact management comb for relatively positioning shielded twisted pair cables, a drain bus, a ground bus and contacts. The management comb includes access openings through which electrical connections between conductors, contacts and the ground bus are effected.

摘要： Ceramic abrasive grits comprising alpha alumina and at least about 0.5 percent by weight rare earth metal oxide are prepared by combining alumina hydrate and rare earth metal oxide or its precursors to produce a blend, drying the blend to produce a dried solid, crushing the dried solid to produce grits, calcining the dried grits to substantially remove bound volatile materials, and firing the grits to produce a ceramic material. The rare earth metal is selected from the group consisting of praseodymium, samarium, ytterbium, neodymium, lanthanum, gadolinium, cerium, dysprosium, erbium, and mixtures of one or more rare earth metal.

摘要： A parameter of blood is sensed in vivo with a system which includes a catheter and a probe. The catheter has a lumen extending therethrough, a proximal end, a distal end and a distal opening at the distal end. The probe includes one or more sensors at its distal end. A saline solution is introduced into the lumen so that there is an interface adjacent the distal opening of the catheter between the blood and saline solution. The probe is received within the catheter and affixed thereto. The interface is moved back and forth in the lumen to expose the sensors to blood so that they can sense the blood parameters of interest.

摘要： A splice closure for environmental protection of aerial cable splices is provided. The splice closure includes a double-wall construction facilitating closure strength, construction and operation. A preferred construction is provided which facilitates extension of an intact closure, by means of a one-half section cut from a second, identical, closure. A trough and drain arrangement facilitates drainage of water from an interior of the closure, to the environment. Preferred orientation of an opening hinge in the closure, facilitates access to an enclosed cable splice area. A preferred arrangement is provided, for association of end cap arrangements with the closure.

摘要： A waterproof, moisture-vapor permeable unitary sheet material comprises a microporous polymeric matrix having pores comprising continuous passages extending through its thickness and opening into the opposite surfaces thereof, the passages being sufficiently filled with a moisture-vapor permeable, water-impermeable, hydrophilic material to prevent the passage of water and other liquids through the unitary sheet material while readily permitting moisture vapor transmission therethrough rendering the sheet material breathable. The unitary sheet is made by causing a liquid composition comprising the hydrophilic material or precursor thereof to flow into the pores of the matrix, then causing the conversion thereof to solid hydrophilic material.

摘要： The sol-gel process for forming dense, alumina-base ceramics, the process comprising1. preparing a dispersion of aluminum oxide monohydrate containing a precursor of a modifying additive in the form of a soluble salt;2. gelling the dispersion;3. drying the gel dispersion to form a solid;4. calcining the solid; and5. sintering the calcined solid,is improved by adding to the dispersion at least about 10 weight percent, based on the oxide equivalent of the soluble salt precursor, of at least one densification aid selected from the group consisting of alcohols, glycols and polyether compounds having a vaporization point in excess of the temperature at which the dispersion is dried. This improved process is particularly useful for manufacturing abrasive grains.

摘要： Novel, non-crosslinked copolymers of vinyl trifluoroacetate (VTA) and up to 5 weight percent of the VTA of certain comonomers, such as vinyl esters or disubstituted ethylene monomers, are disclosed. Solvolysis of these copolymers provides novel water-insoluble, non-crosslinked, poly(vinyl alcohol) copolymers which can be hydrated to copolymers having controllably variable hydrogel properties and high strength. Such poly(vinyl alcohol) copolymers are particularly desirable as optical devices such as contact lenses.

An opaque microporous sheet has a colored stratum on the back and a transparent fusible coating on the face. The coating is a solid solution of amorphous rubbery polymer in crystallizable solvent which, upon melting, gradually penetrates and transparentizes the microporous layer, rendering the colored stratum visible.
