    摘要: A fluid analyzer having a concentrator and separator for concentrating and separating fluid samples at pressures up to about 10,000 psi (˜700 bar). The concentrator and separator may consist of a solid-state thin-film heater-adsorber and a channel supported by a solid substrate. The concentrator may have numerous heated interactive elements for adsorbing and desorbing constituents of a sample fluid. The interactive elements may be heated in a time phased sequential manner by heaters. The separator may separate the sample fluid by compound. There may be thermal conductivity detectors, a flow sensor and electrical conductivity detectors proximate to the channels. This system of concentrator, separator, heaters and sensor may provide information about the sample fluid composition. A pump may be connected to the channel to move the sample fluid through it.

    摘要: A temperature programmed module for use in a gas chromatograph. The module has micropacked column and inner and outer jacket tubes. The inner jacket tube surrounds the column to provide a space between the that tube and the column. The outer jacket tube surrounds the inner jacket tube to provide a space between the two jacket tubes. Air which has a controlled temperature flows only in the space between the two jacket tubes when it is desired to heat the column. Air flows in both spaces when it is not desired to heat the column. The temperature of the air is controlled. The module along with the sample injection valve and flame ionization detector are in an enclosure that is not temperature controlled. The air that flows in both spaces also flows in the enclosure to keep the heat from the valve and the flame ionization detector from heating the column.

    摘要: A flow of a carrier gas through a column is provided. A sample is provided in the column, and a temperature of a longitudinally short portion of the column is raised to a predetermined controlled high temperature at which volatile substances are released from the sample packing and are carried by the carrier gas. The column is cooled on each side of the short portion to a low temperature at which the volatile substances condense or adsorb on the column packing. By continuously moving the heated short portion from an inlet end to an outlet end of the packing in a direction of carrier gas flow the volatile substances selected by the controlled high temperature are released. Four particularly useful and advantageous applications can be identified for the invention. Firstly, it provides an improved gas chromatograph (GC) injector. Secondly, it provides an improved thermal separator or extractor. Thirdly, it provides an efficient way to analyze target compounds suspected of being contained within a complex mixture by allowing for the GC analysis to be carried out only on those compounds or substances falling within the same or similar thermal desorption characteristics as those of the target compound. Lastly, by operating in a full time-coupled time-resolved (TCRC) mode, a complete three-dimensional analysis output can be obtained giving better power of separation of the analyzed sample, which is of particular importance when the substance to be analyzed is a complex organic material.
