Abstract: With the aim of contributing to the optimization of commuting systems, roadways, and other motion systems, Pace Delineation jibe iota (PD) addresses the issue of crossing paths of travel. PD is the process of gathering and analyzing velocities, positions, and other parameters and properties of traversing units to determine the velocities of each such that they do not arrive at the intersections at the same time. Such coordination can help avoid the stoppage of vehicles at an intersection, and collisions obviously. The process also accommodates an overtaking condition which may be used to prioritize emergency responders or other traversals.

Abstract: An approach is provided for traffic Signal Phase and Timing (SPaT) verification using sensor data and probe data. The approach involves, for instance, retrieving image data captured using a sensor of a vehicle traveling within proximity of a traffic light. The approach also involves processing the image data to identify at least one transition of the traffic light between one or more traffic light states. The approach further involves determining a transition time, a cycle time, or a combination thereof between the one or more traffic light states based on the identified at least one transition of the traffic light. The approach further involves performing a comparison of signal phase and timing (SPaT) data of the traffic light with the transition time, the cycle time, or a combination thereof and providing the comparison of the SPaT data as an output.

Abstract: Smart traffic signal methods are provided. One method includes determining a stopping distance for a vehicle approaching a geographic location and, in response to determining the stopping distance, determining whether the first vehicle will stop prior to reaching the geographic location. The method further includes, in response to determining that the vehicle will not stop prior to reaching the geographic location, modifying a signal of a traffic light located at the geographic location. Systems and computer program products for performing the above method are also provided.

Abstract: Systems and methods are disclosed for monitoring or affecting movement of a vehicle using a traffic device. An event data source may have a processor and/or a transceiver. The event data source may transmit, via the transceiver and to a vehicle and infrastructure computing device, information indicative of an event affecting a portion of road. The vehicle and infrastructure computing device may comprise a vehicle and infrastructure control computer. The vehicle and infrastructure computing device may receive, from the event data source, the information indicative of the event affecting the portion of road. The computing device may determine one or more traffic devices associated with the portion of road and configured to control traffic for the portion of road. Based on the information indicative of the event affecting the portion of road, the computing device may send, to the one or more traffic devices associated with the portion of road, instructions to change one or more characteristics of the one or more traffic devices.

Abstract: Technologies are described to adjust a learning rate of Q-learning being used to control traffic signals at an intersection. In some examples, a method may include generating control actions for traffic signals at an intersection based on Q-learning, determining a frequency of change in traffic pattern of the intersection, and adjusting a learning rate of the Q-learning based on the determined frequency of change in traffic pattern of the intersection. The Q-learning may determine the generated control actions based on at least a portion of historical traffic data of the intersection, and the change in traffic pattern may be a change from a first traffic pattern of the intersection to a second traffic pattern of the intersection.
