Abstract:
Social networking is used to enhance content delivery to mobile devices. Sometimes a mobile device lacks network connectivity, such as when the mobile device is off or offline. Content cannot be sent to the mobile device when lacking network connectivity. A social network, however, may be retrieved for interim storage of the content. When the mobile device lacks network connectivity, the content may be routed to a member device of the social network. The member device stores the content until the mobile device resumes network connectivity. The member device may then send or forward the content to the mobile device.
Abstract:
A method for automatic call forwarding, includes: designating a first subscription as a subscription to receive circuit switched calls and packet switched calls; designating a second subscription as a subscription to receive circuit switched calls; and automatically forwarding a circuit switched call received on the first subscription to the second subscription when a packet switched call is active on the first subscription.
Abstract:
A method and system of routing telephone calls from a calling party to a called party including placing a call to a called party, accessing context information associated with the called party, permitting the calling party to opt to continue with the call or terminate the call based on the accessed context information, wherein continuing with the call comprises connecting the call to the called party or selecting a redirection option with the call.
Abstract:
An approach for providing telephony services over a data network is disclosed. A communications system includes a location server that receives a request from a calling station to establish a call with a station associated with a called party. The location server generates a message specifying a set of addresses relating to the called party and context information. A proxy server communicates with the location server and is configured to receive the message and to attempt to establish the call based on the set of addresses. The proxy server iteratively queries the location server to obtain another set of addresses if no prior address results in establishment of the call.
Abstract:
A mobile device is adapted to operate in a first communication mode and a second communication mode. An identifier is acquired for a mobile device, wherein the identifier is sent to identify the mobile device when the mobile device places a call in the first communication mode. A call is placed to a destination device while the mobile device operates in the second communication mode. The same identifier is sent to the destination device while the mobile device operates in the second communication mode. The mobile device is served by a first service provider while it operates in the first communication mode. The mobile device is served by a second service provider while it operates in the second communication mode, the second service provider being different from the first service provider.
Abstract:
A system and method for providing a voice communication service between a first user and a second user after the first user and the second user are communicating via a non-voice communication service is described. The non-voice communication service may be processed through a server in communication with the first and second users. The non-voice communication service is monitored for a voice service request, and upon receipt of the voice service request, establishment of a voice communication service is initiated between the first and second users through the server. The first and second users may be anonymous to each other over the non-voice communication service and the voice communication service.
Abstract:
A base station of a cordless telephone includes a transceiver, a control module, a connection handler, and a media handler. The transceiver wirelessly communicates with a handset. While the handset is operating in a standby mode, the transceiver transmits a signal to instruct the handset to exit the standby mode. The control module establishes a permanent virtual circuit with the handset that includes a predetermined user datagram protocol (UDP) port or a negotiated UDP port. The control module negotiates, with the handset to determine a feature subset of the handset and transmits packets to the handset via the permanent virtual circuit. The packets are selected based on the feature subset of the handset. The connection handler is configured to establish a switched virtual circuit with an endpoint device via a communications channel. The media handler is configured to convert media packets into first and second digital audio compression formats.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a method of routing a call made by a calling party to a fixed telephone number of a called party, wherein the call is routed to one or more mobile terminals (34) via an Internet Protocol network (12) and a wireless access point (10) associated with the fixed telephone number if the one or more mobile terminals (34) are located in an area covered by the wireless access point (10), or to an alternative terminating point if the one or more mobile terminals (34) are located outside the area. A specific Service Control Point is arranged to store a list that comprises alternative terminating points for the calls to the fixed number.
Abstract:
Techniques for providing a gateway transfer mechanism are disclosed. In one particular exemplary embodiment, the techniques may be realized as a method, comprising identifying, at a gateway, a call to be routed to a first location, determining whether to transfer the call to a second location, in the event the call is to be transferred to the second location, transferring the call, wherein transferring the call comprises ending a process to route the call to the first location, generating transfer information for the second location, and transferring the call to the second location using the generated transfer information.
