Abstract:
A pneumatic tire and a mounting system therefor, having constructional features designed to provide optimized operational characteristics. The tire has a low aspect ratio .lambda. and a low height ratio .theta. conforming substantially to the relations .lambda.=0.236/.theta. and 0.32
Abstract:
A two piece wheelhas an inner tire rim half with an inwardly directed annular flange and an annular groove receiving an O-ring seal, an outer tire rim half has an annular chamfer at its inner edge fitting over and compressing the O-ring seal, a wheel spider secured to the inside of the outer rim has a matching inwardly directed annular flange, an annular reinforcing brake attaching flange is adjacent the rim and spider flanges, and studs and nuts fasten the three flanges together.
Abstract:
A tubeless tire and rim assembly including an annular bead lock in the form of an endless train of lock elements interconnected by flexible joints. The bead lock can have not only a fully expanded circular configuration to fit over the rim base but also a partly folded configuration to lie within the inner peripheral circle of the tire. This particularly facilitates the mounting of such bead lock while effectively preventing any improper positioning thereof. An embodiment incorporating a flat-protector together with the bead lock is also contemplated to further improve the driving safety.
Abstract:
A key boss cap particularly adapted for use with an aircraft wheel surrounded multiple disc brake wherein the wheel is provided with a plurality of circumferentially spaced apart fixed drive keys extending into drivable engagement with a plurality of brake rotor discs. The key boss cap is a U-shaped member with or without flanges and is interposed between the key boss of the wheel and the U-shaped steel cap key which form the drive key assembly to drive the rotors of the disc brake. The key boss cap retards heat transfer from the cap key to the key boss integral with the wheel rim. The flanges on the key boss cap are adapted to keep the edges of wheel rim heat shields positioned between adjacent key bosses from touching the wheel rim thereby preventing heat transfer and vibration damage to the wheel rim.
Abstract:
The tubeless tire is mounted on a rim in which the valve stem opening is blocked by obstruction means having any of various structures. The tire is filled ''''under the bead.'''' Subsequently a selected valve stem is used to force the obstruction means to unblock the opening and is mounted in the opening in communication with the tire.
Abstract:
A PLURAL LINK GIRDLING STRUCTURE IN WHICH ALL CONNECTIONS AS BETWEEN LINKS ARE CONIC AND TENSION THE ENTIRE GIRDLING STRUCTURE THEREBY SEATING THE STRUCTURE IN THE RIM THROAT OF AN AUTOMOBILE WHEEL AND PROVIDING AN AUXILIARY SUPPORT FOR THE TIRE THREAD WHEN DEFLATION OF THE TIRE OCCURS. THE STRUCTURE INCLUDES THE CONCEPT OF STANCHIONS IN POSITION AT LINK CONNECTIONS WHEREBY THE RADIAL COMPONENT FORCE OF THE TENSION IS RADIALLY APPLIED INWARDLY TO THE WHEEL RIM THROAT.
