Abstract:
A method for reducing the amount of microfoam in a spray-applied clear waterborne composition is provided, the clear waterborne composition including an emulsion-polymerized addition polymer bearing at least one first reactive group and a reactive modifier bearing one second reactive group and a water-soluble group, the second reactive group being reactive with the first reactive group; applying the composition to a substrate using a spray method; and drying the composition. A reduced amount of microfoam improves the clarity of a film of the composition. Also provided are monofunctional carbodiimide reactive modifiers and substrates bearing the spray-applied clear compositions.
Abstract:
A coating composition including a first component comprising a compound having appended thereto more than one carbamate functional group, and further including a second component reactive with said carbamate groups, which is a substituted acrylamide compound. The composition is useful as a clearcoating composition in a color-plus-clear composite coating.
Abstract:
A powder coating comprising, as main components. (A) a carboxyl group containing resin having a number average molecular weight of 1000-30000, an acid value of 5-200 KOH mg/g and a glass transition temp. of 20.degree.-120.degree. C., and (B) a polyglycidyl compound obtained by addition of a polyester oligomer having 2 or more carboxyl groups and a number average molecular weight of 200-1200, with an epoxy compound of the formula: ##STR1## , the ratio of carboxyl groups in (A) to glycidyl groups in (B) being, in terms of equivalent ratio, 0.5 to 2.0. This powder coating may result a coating with excellent processability, impact strength and the like and is excellent in storage stability, hardening properties either at high or low temperature and even when used a stored powder may result a coating with excellent processability.
Abstract:
Non-aqueous ionomeric coatings useful as protective surface coatings applied to a substrate are produced by combining a carboxyl functional polymer with zinc carbonate. Upon heat curing the applied film, the zinc cation clusters with the carboxyl polymer to produce a thermoset coating film.
Abstract:
Ionomeric paint coatings are produced from an ionomeric polymer containing carboxyl functionality which is coreacted or neutralized with an organic zinc salt. The ionomeric polymer coreacted with a zinc organic salt functions as a binder and exhibits thermosetting-like properties.
Abstract:
A composition for curable paints, comprising(A) 100 parts by weight of a resin for curable paints, and(B) 0.5 to 10 parts by weight of chlorinated and graft-modified polypropylene which is produced by chlorinating polypropylene graft-modified with a grafting component selected from the group consisting of alpha,beta-unsaturated dicarboxylic acids, anhydrides thereof and esters thereof, and which has a chlorine content of 5 to 50% by weight, said graft-modified polypropylene having a degree of saponification of 5 to 150 mg/g and an intrinsic viscosity [.eta.] of 0.1 to 5 dl/g. A curable paint comprising the composition and a diluent.
Abstract:
A resinous composition for coating use comprising a resin obtained by the reaction of base resin having as essential groups, both carboxyl groups derived from a polycarboxylic acid whose titration midpoint potential in non-aqueous potentiometric titration is more than -300 mV in a state capable of developing a resinous acid value and a functional group reactive with a crosslinking agent, and an alkyleneimine compound in an amount equivalent to resinous acid value of 0.01 to 50, the resinous acid value based on said polycarboxylic acid in the final composition being 2 to 50.This is useful for the preparation of a coating composition having improved curing property, storage stability and time color stability.
Abstract:
A protective surface coating composition containing polyol, glycoluril, and emulsion polymer can be heat cured to produce cured films on substrates. The coating is particularly useful as wood coatings.
Abstract:
A paint composition which can be applied from a spray can yet which can be cleaned with water. The composition comprises a water-soluble, neutralized resin film former contained in a water-soluble solvent, but has a maximum water content of 10 weight percent. Formulations can be provided to obtain coatings ranging from flat to high gloss.
Abstract:
Aqueous emulsion thermosetting coating compositions possessing superior flexibility and room temperature coalescence are provided by combining certain aqueous emulsion copolymers including hydroxy and carboxy functionality, aminoplast resin and water dispersible high boiling polyhydric adduct of an aliphatic polyhydric alcohol containing from 2-4 hydroxyl groups with a monoepoxide or a lactone.
