Abstract:
An air/oil-cooled internal combustion engine capable of increasing accuracy in detection of the temperature of the air/oil-cooled internal combustion engine by a temperature sensor and carrying out the warm-up operation after the start-up of the air/oil-cooled internal combustion engine favorably. The air/oil-cooled internal combustion engine includes cooling fins that are provided on the circumferences of a cylinder block and a cylinder head; and a cooling passage that is provided in a combustion chamber upper wall covering a combustion chamber of the cylinder head and is used for cooling the combustion chamber upper wall with lubrication oil. The air/oil-cooled internal combustion engine has a temperature sensor configured to detect the temperature of the air/oil-cooled internal combustion engine by detecting the temperature of oil. The temperature sensor faces a cooling oil outlet portion of the cooling passage.
Abstract:
A cylinder head cover structure of a vehicle which can shorten a longitudinal length of a vehicle while avoiding the restriction on the layout of an engine. A motorcycle includes a vehicle body frame, an engine which is mounted on the vehicle body frame in a suspended manner and includes a cylinder head cover and a radiator which is arranged in front of the engine and behind a front wheel. A recessed portion which is recessed toward a rear side of the vehicle is formed in the cylinder head cover so as to allow a lower portion of the radiator to enter the recessed portion.
Abstract:
An engine includes a cylinder head having a valve-operating chamber. A cylinder head is coupled to a cylinder block by a plurality of fastening bolts. A head cover is coupled to the cylinder head to close the valve-operating chamber. A ventilating gap is defined between a face of the cylinder head fastened by the fastening bolts and a bottom wall of the valve-operating chamber. An operating bore is provided in the bottom wall to enable insertion of at least one of the fastening bolts and a tool for tightening the fastening bolt. A plug is integrally provided in the head cover to be liquid-tightly fitted into the operating bore. Cooling of portions around the bottom wall of the valve-operating chamber is improved, while the cylinder head can be fastened to the cylinder block from the side of the valve-operating chamber by the fastening bolts.
Abstract:
An air-cooled internal combustion engine with individual cylinder heads. In order, with such an engine, to be able to use a single overhead camshaft for all cylinders located in-line, it is proposed according to the present invention to fasten the camshaft on the intake pipe, and to extend the rocker arms laterally beyond the cylinder head in such a manner so that the rocker arms can cooperate with the cams of the camshaft.
Abstract:
An improved air-cooled aviation engine includes a compact combustion chamber having an intake valve opening, an exhaust valve opening, and a generally elliptical shape. The elliptical shape has a major axis and a minor axis, with the major axis intersecting both the intake valve opening and the exhaust valve opening. In some examples, the major axis is the same length or shorter than a diameter of a cylinder bore of the engine, and the minor axis is smaller than the major axis. Combustion is thus constrained to a smaller area than that of the cylinder bore.
Abstract:
In a cylinder head cooling structure of engine E including a camshaft 15 rotated by a crankshaft 2, a push rod, and an actuatable rocker arm, an injection hole 46 for injecting oil pressurized by an oil pump 44 is formed in a shaft portion 43 between an exhaust cam 36 on the camshaft 15 and a journal 15j at its rear end, and the oil injected the injection hole 46 is allowed to enter a rear cylinder head cover 7 through a pushrod chamber in which the push rod is disposed.
Abstract:
A small air-cooled internal combustion engine includes an aluminum cylinder block at least partially defining an aluminum cylinder bore, an aluminum cylinder head attached to the aluminum cylinder block, and an aluminum push rod tube separate from and press fit between the aluminum cylinder block and the aluminum cylinder head. The aluminum push rod tube includes a cylinder block end portion, a cylinder head end portion, and a main body extending between the cylinder block end portion and the cylinder head end portion.
Abstract:
A small air-cooled internal combustion engine includes an aluminum cylinder block, an aluminum cylinder head welded to the aluminum cylinder block, and a weld securing the aluminum cylinder block to the aluminum cylinder head, wherein a joint having a first length is formed between the aluminum cylinder block and the aluminum cylinder head and wherein the weld extends for a second length that is at least 25% of the first length.
Abstract:
A valve system of an internal combustion engine mounted on a vehicle comprises a valve characteristic varying mechanism for controlling valve operation characteristics of an engine valve, and an electric motor of the valve characteristic varying mechanism is disposed in the exterior of a valve chamber defined by the cylinder head. The cylinder head is provided with a duct, for guiding a running airflow therethrough, between a combustion chamber and the valve chamber. The electric motor is laid out at a position which is adjacent to the valve chamber in the radial direction with respect to the cylinder axis and at which the running airflow having flowed in via an inlet portion and having passed through the duct collides on the electric motor.
