    摘要: A cursor movement control key and electronic keyboard for a computer having a video display incorporates a force-sensitive resistor having a junction resistance which varies inversely with pressure applied thereto. The external key cap engages an actuator which bears against the force-sensitive resistor. The actuator has a plurality of four pads which bear against respective electrode regions of the force-sensitive resistor. The pads are positioned at the 0.degree., 90.degree., 180.degree., and 270.degree. positions. The actuator mounts relative to a keyboard mounting plate. At least one of the actuator and mounting plate include opposed lateral projections which engage relative to the other of the actuator and mounting plate to both, a) retain the actuator to the mounting plate, and yet b) allow clearance for tilting movement of the actuator relative to the mounting plate. The force-sensitive resistor is comprised of a material which is predictably and consistently responsive to operator proportional force inputs between about 50 grams and 175 grams. The opposing electrode regions are connected with parallel resistances which cause the resulting resistance response to be more linear for operator force inputs below some preset value selected somewhere between about 50 and 175 grams.

    摘要: A touch-sensitive matrix switch assembly includes a pair of transparent insulating substrates having conductive row strips and column strips. The conductive row strips and column strips are separated by longitudinal extending channels, and an insulating spacer strip is deposited in each row channel and in each column channel. The substrates are mounted together with the row conductors extending transversely with respect to the column conductors. An air gap between the row conductors and column conductors is provided by the engagement of the row spacer strips against the column spacer strips. The space strips are formed by very small diameter transparent glass or polymer particles which are mixed with a transparent polymer adhesive in a volatile solvent. The glass or polymer particle/adhesive mixture is sprayed into the channels through a mask to produce a transparent, non-conductive glass or polymer deposit which is enlarged slightly out of the channel, thereby defining a spacer strip. In an analog touch switch assembly, spacer dots are applied onto the surface of a resistive sheet by pneumatically sputtering small diameter transparent glass or polymer particles which are coated by a transparent polymer adhesive.

    摘要: The invention is directed to a membrane switch comprising a first layer 30 of flexible insulating material and a second layer 50 having relatively inflexible characteristics, each layer 30, 50 having an array of conductors 40, 54 disposed thereon and defining a plurality of switch point areas over a substantial portion of the respective layers. The first sheet is transparent and carries visible symbols on the inner surface thereof formed by a first layer 36 of inks printed thereon and further includes a barrier coating over such symbols to provide contrast therefore. The first array 40 of conductors is printed on the barrier coating. The second array 54 of conductors is printed on the inflexible layer. The first and second arrays 40, 54 of conductors are connected to respective voltage sources, preferably by further arrays of conductors 42, 56 disposed over at least portions of the first and second arrays, 40, 54 the further arrays 42, 56 being of a material having a higher conductivity than the material used for the first and second arrays 40, 54. Spacer means 58 for the switch is formed by printing an array of spaced apart dots of a dielectric and insulating coating on top of at least one of the arrays of conductors in the defined switch point areas to hold the switch point areas normally apart until pressure is placed thereupon to deform the first sheet 30 and effect a switch closure between corresponding switch point areas of the arrays 40, 54. A method for making the switch is also disclosed.
