Abstract: Heterogeneous assays for different analytes in a single biological sample are performed simultaneously in a multiplexed assay that combines flow cytometry with the use of magnetic particles as the solid phase and yields an individual result for each analyte. The particles are distinguishable from each other by characteristics that permit them to be differentiated into groups, each group carrying an assay reagent bonded to the particle surface that is distinct from the assay reagents of particles in other groups. The magnetic particles facilitate separation of the solid and liquid phases, permitting the assays to be performed by automated equipment. Assays are also disclosed for the simultaneous detection of antibodies of different classes and a common antigen specificity or of a common class and different antigen specificities. Each type is accomplished by immunological binding at the surfaces of two distinct solid phases in a sequential manner with dissociation of the binding and washing of the solid phase in between the binding steps.

Abstract: Systems and methods for automating hands-free workflow of laboratory procedures. The system includes a wearable device with a display and a workflow controller in communication with the wearable device. The workflow controller can be configured to extract a workflow for a specified laboratory procedure from a workflow repository. The workflow can include a plurality of instructions arranged in a specified sequence. One or more instructions of the plurality of instructions can be sequential delivered to the wearable device for an operator to follow. The one or more instructions can include a visual indicator configured to be displayed within the display of the wearable device. The wearable device can be configured to receive voice commands and the workflow controller can be configured to navigate the workflow based on the voice commands. The wearable device can be used to scan codes and display additional information during workflow implementation.

Abstract: Systems and methods for detection of a signal from droplets of an emulsion. An exemplary system may comprise a fluid transporter having a tube with an open end for aspirating droplets, a singulator to arrange the droplets in single file and to space the single-file droplets from one another, and a detection channel in optical communication with a detector configured to detect a signal from droplets. In some embodiments, the singulator may have a channel junction at which a stream of droplets in single file is combined with a stream of spacing fluid, and a tapered spacing channel extending downstream from the channel junction toward the detection channel. In some embodiments, the fluid transporter may suck droplet-containing fluid and spacing fluid through the detection channel from respective sources. In some embodiments, droplets may be subjected to a disaggregation routine before they are passed through the detection channel.
