Abstract:
Novel dianhydrides derived from trimellitic anhydride and adamantane diacetates are polymerized with a diamine to produce the corresponding polyamide, which is subsequently converted to the polyesterimide by heat treatment at temperatures above 500.degree.F.
Abstract:
Di-substituted maleic anhydride compounds are disclosed of the structural formula ##STR1## wherein R and R.sup.1 are selected from the group consisting of aliphatic and phenyl moieties, and R.sup.2 is a divalent aromatic moiety. Polyamide-imide polymers, polyimide polymers and vinyl copolymers derived therefrom are also disclosed.

Abstract:
Carbamates of beta- hydroxyethylsulfoxides which are useful as cosurfactants in enhanced oil recovery, surfactants and biocides, and as hydraulic fluids when of sufficiently low molecular weight.
Abstract:
Novel polyimides, copolyimides and molding compositions are prepared from novel dianhydrides such as bicyclo[4.2.0]octane-2,5 diphenyl-7,8-dimethyl,3,4,7,8-tetracarboxylic dianhydride and bicyclo[4.2.0] octane-7,8-dimethyl-3,4,7,8-tetracarboxylic acid dianhydride. The novel polyimides are useful as engineering plastics. The novel dianhydrides are useful for the preparation of the polyimides.
Abstract:
Poly sulfoxides of the general formula ##STR1## where each R is a monovalent aliphatic radical bound to a sulfoxy group. Each R is defined as being individually selected from the group consisting of ##STR2## wherein R', R" and R"' are individually selected from the group consisting of alkyl moieties containing 1 to 22 carbon atoms, and aralkyl moieties, alkylated aryl moieties, heterocyclic alkyl moieties, cycloalkyl moieties containing 4 to 40 carbon atoms wherein the said moieties are joined to the sulfoxy group through the alkyl chain, the said moieties being unsubstituted and substituted, said substitutions being individually selected from the group consisting of halogen moieties, nitro moieties, alkoxy moieties, alkyl moieties, and dialkylamino moieties.
Abstract:
Molybdenum compounds, particularly molybdenum sulfide, molybdenum silicide, molybdenum selenide and molybdenum telluride are useful Friedel-Crafts catalysts for the aralkylation of aromatics to produce polybenzyls, the manufacture of aromatic ketones, aromtic sulfones and aromatic esters. The reaction products are useful as laminates, herbicides and bactericides.
Abstract:
Disclosed are adducts of 1-cyclohexene-1,2-dicarboxylic anhydride with olefins and preparation thereof by reacting an olefinically unsaturated compound and 1-cyclohexene-1,2-dicarboxylic anhydride using actinic radiation as an energy source at a temperature of from -30.degree. C. to 150.degree. C., preferably at from about 25.degree. C. to 100.degree. C. Derivatives of these compounds are useful as rust inhibitors in gasoline.
