    摘要: An optical switch for switching signal light by allowing the signal light to obliquely enter a non-linear optical thin film 1 containing nano-crystal of metal oxide from a light path disposed in an optical material, and irradiating visible excitation light to the non-linear optical thin film to induce a total reflection phenomenon, thereby controlling the reflection and transmission behavior of the signal light, wherein a difference between a temperature coefficient factor of an optical index of the non-linear optical thin film and that of an optical index of the optical material which is in contact with the non-linear optical thin film is determined to be 15×10−6/° C. or below. Preferably, it is determined to be zero or substantially zero. Thus, an influence due to the temperature increase is cancelled, and a malfunction of switching can be avoided.

    摘要: Constituent elements of a glass frit for fixing spacers propagate along the spacers and migrate to electron emitters to deteriorate the electron emitters, and thereby silhouetting shadows of the spacers on a screen are suppressed. In an image display which is equipped with a rear substrate provided on its inner surface with electron emitters, a front substrate facing the rear substrate, provided on its inner surface with a phosphor pattern having an array corresponding to the electron emitters, and having an outer surface serving as a display surface, and in which a gap between the substrates is held by glass-made spacers, propagation along the spacers and migration to the side of the electron emitters of the constituent elements of the glass frit for fixing spacers is prevented by fixing oxide crystal particles on the spacer surface, or by fixing at least a part of the spacer to the front panel by an adhesive layer comprising a conductive glass a part of which is crystallized.

    摘要: To provide a spacer, which is unlikely to degrade due to heating received during manufacture process of an image display device, and an image display device equipped with the spacer. An image display device includes: a cathode substrate including an electron source; an anode substrate including a fluorescent substance that emits light upon receiving electrons emitted from the electron source; and a spacer that is disposed between the cathode substrate and the anode substrate and supports the both substrates, wherein the spacer comprises the one having a film composed of a composite metal oxide on a side surface of a glass base material, the composite metal oxide being composed of a solid solution of a metal oxide having a semiconductor-like electrical conductivity and a metal oxide having an insulator-like electrical conductivity. The spacer equipped with this composite metal oxide film has less degradation, such as that a glass composition volatilizes, even if heated during the manufacture process of an image display device, and provides an excellent image.

    摘要: Disclosed is a constitution formed from an oxide of an element having a smaller work function than aluminum. This oxide is comprises an oxide of vanadium (V), an oxide of an alkaline earth metal and an oxide of an alkali metal. The elements for the alkaline earth metal are comprise one or more elements out of the elements calcium (Ca), strontium (Sr) and barium (Ba) and at least contain barium. The elements for the alkali metal include at least one or more of sodium (Na), potassium (K), rubidium (Rb) and cesium (Cs). When the element vanadium is included as vanadium pentoxide (V2O5), the vanadium pentoxide content is 40-70 wt %. Thus, a glass composition for aluminum electrode wiring with an apparent work function for electrode wiring that is smaller than the work function for aluminum (Al) can be provided without the inclusion of lead.
