An internal combustion engine variable compression ratio system is provided that includes a piston inner (5a), a piston outer (5b) that is fitted around the outer periphery of the piston inner (5a) so that it can slide only in the axial direction and is capable of moving between a low compression ratio position (L) and a high compression ratio position (H), a raising member (14) that can pivot around axes of the piston inner and outer (5a, 5b) between a non-raised position (A) and a raised position (B), and an actuator (20) connected to the member (14) and pivoting it to the non-raised position (A) or the raised position (B), in which piston outer high compression ratio position latching means (30b) is disposed between the piston inner (5a) and the piston outer (5b) and operates, when the piston outer (5b) has reached the high compression ratio position (H), so as to prevent relative axial movement of the piston inner (5a) and the piston outer (5b). It is thereby possible to provide a variable compression ratio system that enables the piston outer to be moved to the low compression ratio position and the high compression ratio position simply and reliably without rotating the piston outer.

A VCSEL includes a substrate, a first semiconductor multilayer of a first conductivity-type, an active layer, a second semiconductor multilayer of a second conductivity-type, a contact layer, each of the layers stacked on the substrate. The second semiconductor multilayer constitutes a resonator together with the active layer and the first semiconductor multilayer. A metal layer is formed on the contact layer. The metal layer includes an opening portion that defines a region that emits laser light. When oscillation wavelength of the laser light is λ, optical thickness T of the contact layer and a top layer of the second semiconductor multilayer that contacts with the contact layer is smaller than λ/4.

A switch device is provided that includes a first switch portion in which an upper electrode and lower electrodes face each other at a predetermined gap and a second switch portion having metal domes which are disposed at a lower side facing the first switch portion and expand to a predetermined height. A first spacer having a predetermined thickness A is disposed in the first switch portion to form a gap between the upper electrode and the lower electrodes, a second spacer having a thickness B equal to or greater than the expanded height of the metal domes is disposed in the second switch portion, and the thickness of the second spacer is greater than that of the first spacer.

(i) In a ceramic catalyst body which comprises a ceramic carrier which has a multitude of pores capable of supporting a catalyst directly on the surface of a substrate ceramic and a catalyst supported on the ceramic carrier, a layer containing an anti-evaporation metal such as Rh is formed on the outer surface of catalyst metal particles such as Pt or Rh. The layer containing the anti-evaporation metal protects the catalyst metal and prevents evaporation thereof, thereby suppressing the deterioration; and/or(ii) A ceramic catalyst body is made by having a main catalyst component and a promoter component directly on a ceramic carrier which can directly support the catalyst by substituting a part of the constituent elements of cordierite, and a trap layer is provided in the upstream thereof for trapping sulfur which is a catalyst poisoning component included in the exhaust gas. Since sulfur included in the exhaust gas can be collected by the trap layer, the catalyst poisoning component can be removed from the gas which enters the catalyst, thus preventing catalyst poisoning.

There is provided a compact, lightweight, inexpensive head/disk test device. A spin stand is provided that supports a magnetic head to enable attaching and removal and comprises a fluid dynamic bearing motor that continues rotating even when the magnetic head is attached or removed. Alternatively, the spin stand comprises a fluid dynamic bearing motor and a detector for detecting changes in the back electromotive force or changes in the magnetic flux density generated by the rotation of the fluid dynamic bearing motor and for generating an index signal. Furthermore, the spin stand is provided with a fluid dynamic bearing motor and encloses a conductive fluid in a bearing of the fluid dynamic bearing motor and the bearing is grounded.

A method of manufacturing a cross fin tube and a cross fin type heat exchanger including the cross fin tube obtained in accordance with the manufacturing method. A tube-expanding plug has cutout-forming protuberances which are formed on an outer circumferential surface thereof with a number of 60-160 per circumference such that the cutout-forming protuberances extend in a direction which intersects primary grooves which are previously formed on an inner circumferential surface of a heat transfer tube, and at the same time when the heat transfer tube and plate fins are fixed integrally to each other in accordance with the mechanically tube-expanding operation, secondary grooves which are cross grooves with respect to the primary grooves are formed to have a depth (d2) which is held in a range of 10-40% of a depth (d1) of the primary grooves.

A mobile telephone 2 having a function for downloading and executing an application A from a network server comprises a communications module execution control system 1. The judging section 132 acquires and refers to an attribute information file 14. If the attribute information file 14 contains a (UseTelephone=call) definition, then the judging section 132 judges that the call section 102 is to be executed by the application A, and if there is no UseTelephone key, then it judges that the call section 102 is not be executed by the application A. If the UseTelephone value is not “call”, then the judging section 132 judges that the download of the application A is not allowed. The control section 136 controls the download and execution of the application A, in accordance with the judgement from the judging section 132.

Method and apparatus for measuring three dimensional information of a target placed in an interior space of a rotator type mirror by using the rotator type mirror in combination with an imaging apparatus disposed with its light receiving axis aligned with a center axis of the rotator type mirror. The invention includes projecting reference light toward the rotator type mirror from a position on the center axis, and scanning the target with mirror reflected reference light that is produced by reflecting the reference light on the rotator type mirror. The invention further includes obtaining the three dimensional information of the target, based on a physical quantity corresponding to the projection angle of the reference light and on a physical quantity corresponding to the position of a projected image obtained when the mirror reflected reference light that scanned the target is captured by the imaging apparatus via the rotator type mirror.
