The present invention relates to a method for the assessment of quantity and quality parameters of biological particles in a liquid analyte material. The method comprises applying a volume of a liquid sample to an exposing domain from which exposing domain electromagnetic signals from the sample in the domain can pass to the exterior, and exposing, onto an array of active detection elements such as CCD-elements, a spatial representation of electromagnetic signals having passed from the domain, the representation being detectable as an intensity by individual active detection elements, under conditions permitting processing of the intensities detected by the array of detection elements during the exposure in such a manner that representations of electromagnetic signals from the biological particles are identified as distinct from representations of electromagnetic signals from background signals. The size of the volume of the liquid sample is sufficiently large to permit the assessment of the quantity and quality parameters to fulfill a predetermined requirement to the statistical quality of the assessment based on substantially one exposure.
Abstract:
Detection and analysis of biological particles can provide useful information with respect to a wide range of applications. Those include but are not limited to analysis of disease markers in diagnostic samples, quantification of bacteria and/or viral particles in environmental samples, and detection of specific proteins in cell culture samples. The methods presented herein provide simple, rapid and reliable means of detecting and analyzing biological particles in a hydrogel, and are especially suitable for quantification of for example nucleic acids, viral particles, bacteria, yeast, animal cells, and proteins. The invention also relates to a kit of parts and to a system for detection and analysis of biological particles in a hydrogel.

A method and a device for the assessment of at least one parameter of particles in a liquid analyte material are disclosed. The method comprises providing a device having a sample compartment with an exposing domain, an inlet through which a volume of a liquid sample representing the analyte material can been introduced, and a flow system comprising at least a channel allowing at least a portion of the volume of the liquid sample to flow within the device. The volume of the liquid sample passes into the exposing domain of the sample compartment, which can quantitatively detect spatial image data and process the detected image electromagnetic signals from the sample in the exposing domain of the device. A spatial image representation of the exposing domain, and processing the detected image presentation obtaining the assessment of the at least one parameter is generated in the device.

The present invention offers an alternative strategy for the correlation of interference information to chemical and/or physical properties of a sample. This strategy can be implemented in a method and a system, which offer substantial technical and commercial advantages over state of the art techniques based on interference spectroscopy. The method comprises the steps of: a. obtaining an interferogram and/or at least one interferogram element corresponding to a modulation of electromagnetic signal emitted from, transmitted onto or through, or having interacted with at least a part of the sample, b. performing i. at least one transformation of the interferogram and/or a segment of the interferogram and/or an interferogram element with at least one function, ii. optionally repeating i) for another segment of the interferogram and/or interferogram element, wherein the transformation does not comprise a Fourier Transformation if i) is conducted only once, thereby obtaining at least one score, c. correlating said at least one score to the at least one chemical or physical property.
