摘要: A method and apparatus for the treatment of colds. The method comprises directing heated air into the mouth of a human being, which is then held in the lungs for a period of time. The heated air is then exhaled from the lungs through either the mouth or the nose. A heat generator is provided for direction of the heated air into the body. Prior to entering the body, the heated air passes through a cone-shaped device. The temperature of the air is incrementally increased as the method is repeated. The heated air in the body kills cold sustaining bacteria.

摘要: A nasopharyngeal catheter provides direct pharyngeal delivery of high flows of humidified air, oxygen, helium, or other gases to supplement ventilation of a spontaneously breathing patient. For example, flow rates in the range of approximately 4 to 40 liters per minute can be employed. The flow passes through a heater that maintains a desired temperature, and a humidifier that maintains a desired relative humidity. The present invention includes a nasal catheter that can be cut to a desired length and removably attached to a horizontal delivery tube. Gas can be supplied through oxygen connections at either end of the horizontal delivery tube.

摘要: A humidified medical gas supply apparatus to supply gas such as carbon dioxide for laparoscopic surgery includes a gas supply, a supply controller, and a gas supply tube which has a humidification chamber mounted into it. The chamber has a dampened gas-pervious medium and an electrical heating element. The electrical element may extend along the gas supply tube and be wound around the medium within the chamber. A control controls an electrical supply to the electrical heating element to vary the electrical supply dependent upon a gas flow rate in the supply tube.

摘要: In some additional aspects, an apparatus can include a chamber having an inlet valve for receiving a reactant gas and an outlet valve for delivering a product gas, a piston positioned inside the chamber and configured to move along a length of the chamber for adjusting pressure in the chamber, a sensor for collecting information related to one or more conditions of a respiratory system associated with a patient, a controller for determining one or more control parameters based on the collected information, and one or more pairs of electrodes positioned inside the chamber for initiating a series of electric arcs external to the patient to generate nitric oxide based on the determined control parameters.

摘要: A method and system is provided for increasing brown adipose tissue deposits and activity by breathing air from a CPAP machine having a chiller which cools the air to less than 55° F. before discharge from the CPAP mask to the person's lungs while sleeping. The cool air increases brown adipose tissue development and activity, thereby increasing caloric expenditures, so as to lead to weight loss and other health benefits.

摘要: A flexible tape heater (110) in a patient conduit (112) may be used to heat the flow of gas in the patient conduit (112) that is delivered to the patient mask (116). The thin, flat and extended nature of the flexible tape heater (110) may enhance heat transfer with the gas flow while also providing low impedance to the gas flow. Heating of the gas may facilitate the desired temperature and humidity to be reached for the gas delivered to the patient by the respiratory apparatus. The flexible tape heater (110) may be placed in the patient conduit (112) such that the flexible tape heater (110) is twisted or bent about one or more of the flexible tape heater's (110) three axes. Additionally these configurations may be used to enhance the turbulent mixing of the water vapor produced in the humidification chamber (114) with the gas flow.
