Abstract:
An apparatus and method is disclosed herein for producing controlled perforations in an adhesive-coated porous web. A porous, woven or nonwoven web backing material has an adhesive, or the like, coated onto a surface thereof, and prior to drying of the adhesive thereon, a gas, or the like, is directed through a gas perforating means, which incorporates a plurality of apertures therein. While said gas perforating means is variably positioned in contiguous proximity to the moving adhesive-coated porous web, the gas stream impinges on the adhesive-coated porous web, resulting in a plurality of discontinuties or perforations being formed in the adhesive-coated porous web. Various predetermined patterns of perforations in the adhesive-coated web may be obtained by oscillating the gas perforating means in different directions, altering the physical dimensions of the apertures located in the gas perforating means, altering the spatial pattern of said openings, rotating the gas perforating means during the operation, and the like.
Abstract:
When ion bombardment milling is used to each electronic devices having metal-polymer sandwich stuctures, the ion bombardment induces conductivity in the normally insulating polymer layers, even at low (e.g. 100 eV) bombardment energies. Bombarded polymer layers can be used to produce thin film resistors. Where it is desired to reduce or eliminate the bombardment induced conductivity, this may be accomplished, for a polyimide polymer, by a brief (e.g. 30 sec) exposure to a low energy (e.g.
Abstract:
An oven is disclosed as having a plurality of chambers which are sealed from the ambient atmosphere, and to which gas, heated to a high temperature outside the chambers, is circulated to each of the chambers for admixture with gas which is cool compared to the high temperature gas, to produce in the chambers a mixture of hot and cool gas at a predetermined temperature. The hot gas is circulated to the chambers at a certain desired pressure, wherein the cool gas is circulated to the chambers at a certain rate of flow. Gas is exhausted from the oven also at a fixed rate of flow. The gas pressure in the first oven to be encountered by an element passing through the oven, is monitored and triggers a change in the flow of cool gas when the pressure varies from a desired norm. This change in flow of cool gas influences the temperature which is also monitored. A change in the temperature produces a corresponding change in the mixture of hot and cool gas to return the oven temperature to the desired level.
Abstract:
A disclosed digital media device operational at user premises to receive media signals from a media source for presentation via endpoint devices such as a television display. The digital media device can include gateway and digital media management functionality and can be referred to as a gateway and digital media device. The device offers application services obtained over a wide area network and a user premises network. The digital media device may form a composite signal from the media signal and application service information, for example, for a composite audio and/or video signal for television type presentation to the user. The digital media device may receive a selection signal based on the presentation, for transmission to the application service provider device or to the media source. The media device also offers a GUI presenting a moveable arrangement of icons for selectively accessing application services.

To provide a method for firing a copper paste, which improves sinterability of copper particles for the purpose of forming a copper wiring line that is decreased in the electrical conductivity. A method for firing a copper paste, which comprises: an application step wherein a copper paste is applied over a substrate; a first heating step wherein the substrate is heated in a nitrogen gas atmosphere containing from 500 ppm to 2,000 ppm (inclusive) of an oxidizing gas in terms of volume ratio after the application step, thereby oxidizing and sintering copper particles in the copper paste; and a second heating step wherein the substrate is heated in a nitrogen gas atmosphere containing 1% or more of a reducing gas in terms of volume ratio after the first heating step, thereby reducing the oxidized and sintered copper oxide.
Abstract:
Medical devices that include a tubular member with a plurality of braided filaments, each filament crossing another of the filaments at a respective crossing point forming sidewall and a plurality of pores in the sidewall that are sized to inhibit flow of blood through the sidewall into an aneurysm to a degree sufficient to lead to thrombosis and healing of the aneurysm when the tubular member is positioned in a blood vessel and adjacent to the aneurysm, the pores have an average pore size that is less than or equal to about 500 microns when the tubular member is in an expanded state, the filaments possessing antithrombogenic surfaces to increase antithrombogenicity of the medical device with pores substantially free of webs formed by antithrombogenic material, such that fewer than 5% of the crossing points have webs formed by antithrombogenic material thereby permitting the pores to be substantially free of webs.
