The methods can include providing a foam core, wherein the foam core includes a foam having a softening point of 90° C. to 110° C., covering a portion of the foam core with a prepreg, contacting the prepreg that covers the portion of the foam core with a curable composition, and curing the prepreg and the curable composition to form the composite, wherein the prepreg insulates the foam core during the curing so that the foam maintains a temperature that is below the softening point. Embodiments include a composite obtained by curing the prepreg and the curable composition. Embodiments include B-stageable formulation having a resin component and a hardener component.

A process for preparing a tris-lactam crosslinking agent, tris-pyrrolidonyl triazine, from N,N',N"-tris(4-chlorobutyryl)melamine by treatment of the chlorobutyryl derivative with a base such as sodium or potassium carbonate to effect intramolecular cyclization to the tris-lactam. A curable composition comprised of tris-pyrrolidonyl triazine as the crosslinking agent and a hydroxyfunctional or aminofunctinoal material as a resin. Thick films with no pinholes are prepared from the curable compositions using powder coating techniques.

Compositions of amine terminated polyamide resins useful for curing epoxy resins are disclosed comprising combinations of fatty mono-acids, dimer acids, polyethyleneamines, and piperazine ring containing polyamines having an N--H functionality of 2 or 3 per mole selected from the group consisting of piperazine, or N-aminoalkylpiperazine, where the alkyl chain is a C2 to C6 alkyl chain, wherein the ratio of equivalents of fatty mono-acid to dimer acid can range from about 0.001:1 to about 1:1, the ratio of moles of piperazine ring containing polyamine to polyethylene amine can range from about 0.1:1 to about 1:1, and the ratio of moles of polyamine to equivalents of acid can range from about 0.6:1 to about 1.2:1. Coating compositions comprising these polyamide resins are also disclosed.

Water-dispersible curing agents for epoxy resins are disclosed which, as a mixture with epoxy resins, have a potlife indication by showing the end of the processing time by a clear increase in viscosity, and which comprise reaction products (ABC) of adducts of aliphatic polyols (A) with a weight-average molar mass of from 200 to 20, 000 g/mol, comprising at least one polyol (A1) having a molar mass of less than 4000 g/mol, and at least one polyol (A2) having a molar mass of more than 4000 g/mol, and at least one epoxide compound (B) having at least two epoxide groups per molecule, and a specific epoxide group content of from 500 to 10 000 mmol/kg, (A1) and (A2) being reacted separately or as a mixture with (B), and then reacting this adduct with one or more polyamines (C) having at least three amine hydrogen atoms and at least one primary amino group per molecule, the ratio of the number of hydroxyl groups of component (A) to the number of epoxide groups of component (B) being 1:3 to 1:10, and the ratio of the number of remaining epoxide groups in the epoxide-polyol adduct to the number of amine hydrogen atoms in polyamines (C) being 1:1.5 to 1:100. The water-dispersible curing agents are useful as curing agents for epoxy resins in two component coating compositions.

The composition may further incorporate therein at least one compound selected from the group consisting of polyfunctional phenol compounds, polyfunctional carboxylic acids, acid anhydrides, and amine compounds.
