摘要: The invention concerns a composition aimed to indicate by color change when consumer articles, particularly volatile dispensers, containing or associated with said composition have become inefficient in use. The composition is constituted by a volatile liquid phase, a non-volatile polar phase and a useful amount of a dye originally dissolved essentially in the volatile liquid phase, said dye being able to adopt a different color according to the nature of the phase in which it is dissolved or deposited. Optionally, the composition can also contain an effective amount of an acidic compound. The invention also concerns the use of said composition in a consumer article, in particular a device aimed to diffuse a volatile or partially volatile liquid, more specifically an air freshener.

摘要: A wicking material is disclosed that exhibits a horizontal wicking velocity of at least about 1.0 millimeter per second when contacted with a physiological fluid such as blood, lymph or cellular interstitial fluid. This high wicking rate is achieved by means of treatment of a fibrous wicking material candidate with a low temperature gas plasma, particularly a glow discharge gas plasma formed in a gaseous blend made up predominantly of a mixture of oxygen with a saturated alkane chosen from the group consisting of methane, ethane and propane. Diagnostic test strips made with the surface-modified wicking material, and containing an immobilized reagent means for analysis of an analyte in a physiological fluid, show improved performance in terms of increased accuracy, finer precision of analyses, reduced time of analysis, a smaller fluid sample size requirement, and improved compliance with manufacturing standards resulting in lower manufacturing costs. blood sugar determinations.

摘要: An apparatus for determining exposure to an oxidative sterilant is described. The apparatus includes a chemical indicator for indicating exposure to the oxidative sterilant and a biological indicator for determining the effectiveness of the exposure to the oxidative sterilant. The chemical indicator has a metallic surface with a non-pH sensitive permanent indicator on the surface for indicating exposure to the oxidative sterilant. The chemical indicator may be on a self-contained biological indicator. The biological indicator and chemical indicator may be inside a test pack, where the test pack restricts sterilant flow to the indicators.

摘要: An assay device for determining the presence of specific analytes in a liquid sample comprises a container for collecting the sample liquid and a removable cap for sealing the container. The cap includes one or more test strips, such as chromatography strips, supported thereon for visually displaying the results of the assay. A chamber in the cap, collects, through an inlet, a volume of liquid from the container when it is inverted by depressing and subsequently releasing a piston located in the chamber. The liquid collected in the chamber is transferred to the chromatography strips by a wicking system. The piston frictionally engages a seal pad made of resilient material. The seal pad closes the inlet and forms a hermetic seal between the liquid contained within the container and the outside thereby preventing such liquid from becoming contaminated and any leakage of the contained liquid.

摘要: This invention provides a RP-HPLC method, for the determination of logPoct values, which combines ease of operation and high accuracy, and which has been shown to work for a set of 36 molecules largely comprised of drugs. The general features of the method are: i) compound sparing (null1 mL of a 30-50 nullg/mL solution needed), ii) rapid determinations (20 minutes on average), iii) low sensitivity to impurities, iv) wide lipophilicity range (6 logPoct units), v) good accuracy, vi) excellent reproducibility. A linear free energy relationship (LFER) analysis, based on solvation parameters, shows that the method encodes the same information obtained from a shake-flask logPoct determination. The value generated via this method is referred to as ElogPoct .
