Abstract: A cylinder lifter is disclosed that provides a safe and easy way to load gas-filled cylinders into a lifter and to transport the cylinders vertically overhead. The lifter has a flat bottom plate to facilitate the loading of a cylinder thereon. Extending vertically from the flat bottom plate is a semicircular frame that encompasses the cylinder when resting on the flat bottom plate. The lifter has two releasable locking devices to secure the cylinder in the lifter. To accommodate transportation of the loaded lifter overhead, an engageable lift bar extends from the top of the frame.

Abstract: A portable air tank having a safety relief venting assembly formed in the bottom of the tank. The safety relief vent includes a tubular relief frame welded to the exterior of the tank about a relief hole punched in the tank's bottom near one end thereof. The tubular relief frame includes a channel therethrough which aligns with, and surrounds, the hole punched in the bottom of the tank. The legs of the tank are formed to maintain the tank in an angled relation, with respect to a horizontal plane, to ensure that condensation within the tank collects at the relief hole. The venting assembly includes a cup-shaped plug inserted into the relief frame. A concave surface of the cup-shaped plug is directed upward toward the interior of the tank to ensure that condensation collects within the cup. The cup-shaped plug is formed with a thickness substantially half that of the tank's outer wall to ensure that the plug will corrode and fail before any other portion of the tank wall is compromised. When the plug fails, air pressure within the tank is discharged through the relief frame and downward against the floor to minimize the danger to the user.

Abstract: A system for charging compressed air cylinders with air for breathing incorporates a fragmentation containment chamber having walls of 1/4" minimum thickness steel plate and a carousel mounted in the front panel for transferring the cylinders into and out of the chamber. Specially configured locking plates are moved in and out of locking position for the carousel in accordance with the pressurizing operation. A rotary valve serves to insure that compressed air can only be transferred to the cylinders within the cylinder when they are in position for charging and not to the cylinders outside the chamber. A grating at the bottom of the chamber permits high pressure air to exit the chamber safely in case of any malfunction. Safety interlocks and automatic controls operate in accordance with rotation of the cylinders on the carousel results in the easy, rapid and safe charging of the breathing air cylinders.

Abstract: The present invention is an automatic volume fill control apparatus to be used in conjunction with a recovering device which is operable upon being electrically connected to an electrical power source. The automatic control apparatus comprises a control unit electrically interconnected between the electrical power source and the recovering device. The control unit has an electrical circuit which includes an electrical relay switch and connects with a float switch installed in a recovered refrigerant tank. The float switch is normally closed when the refrigerant tank is less than 80% filled, which causes the relay switch to be closed to establish electrical connection between the power source and the recovering device, so the filling of the refrigerant tank continues. When the refrigerant in the tank reaches 80% in volume, the float switch will be opened, which causes the relay switch to open to cut-off the electrical connection between the power source and the recovering device, so the filling process stops. Abstract: A removable handle for gas cylinder hand trucks allows storage of the truck in a smaller space by decreasing the height of the truck. The invention is for trucks of the type having a tubular handle extending upward from the frame. The joint (or joints) where the handle removes is formed by making a cut in the tube, preferably just above the level of the top of the frame. This cut becomes a joint by adding to the cut a dowel and a bracket. The dowel is permanently fastened into the handle part of the tube, and snugly fits into the lower, or frame, end of the tube. The dowel both aligns and angularly braces the two tube sections. The bracket part consists of two plates, one fastened to the removable handle part and one fastened to the frame, which are bolted together when the joint is fastened. The plates are radially attached to adjoining parts of the handle tube and frame tube. Each plate has a hole for the bolt. The bolted plates prevent relative twisting of the two tubes and also reinforce the dowel. The invention is applicable to either a single-joint upright tubular handle or a double-joint U-shaped tubular handle.
