Abstract: The disclosed single pass raised bed preparation system makes use of one or more rows of adjustable height compact discs (4), to mulch up stubble and loosen the soil in the depressed furrows prior to the action of a bed-forming implement (6) mounted behind the discs. At the same time the raised beds are cultivated by two rows of compact discs, with the second row (2) opposite handed to the leading row (1). A roller or crumbler (7) levels and conditions the beds, so that both the beds and the furrows are restored in a single pass to a condition ready for sowing.

Abstract: A system and method for metered dosage illumination in a bioanalysis or other system includes an illumination system or subsystem that can provide optimized amounts of excitation light within the short exposure times necessary to measure fast biological activity. The amount of light can be precisely measured to provide quantitative results. The light flux can be precisely controlled to generate a prescribed minimum amount of light, in order to reduce adverse lighting effects on both fluors and samples. The system and method is particularly useful in any quality-control, analysis, or assessment-based environment. Typical research and development applications can include quality control, instrument calibration, and light output standardization; while clinical and diagnostics applications can include clinical monitoring, bioassay calibration and control for diagnostics, treatment and or therapeutic evaluation.

Abstract: A system and method for metered dosage illumination in a bioanalysis or other system. In accordance with an embodiment, an illumination system or subsystem is described that can provide optimized amounts of excitation light within the short exposure times necessary to measure fast biological activity. The amount of light can be precisely measured to provide quantitative results. The light flux can also be precisely controlled to generate only a prescribed minimum amount of light, in order to reduce adverse lighting effects on both fluors and samples. Although the examples herein illustrate the providing of metered dosage illumination in the context of a bioanalysis system, the techniques can be similarly used to provide metered dosage illumination in the context of other types of system.

Abstract: A method of operating a communication network having multiple stations, each able to transmit and receive data, so that the network can transmit a message from an originating station to a destination station via at least one opportunistically selected intermediate station. Stations wishing to transmit data transmit probe signals which are responded to by other stations, thereby to identify available stations. When a station has data to send, it transmits probe signals with Request to Send messages, identifying the data to be sent. When a station receives such data for onward transmission, it transmits its own probe signals with a Request to Send message and including identification information relating to the data. The Request to Send messages are received by other stations in the vicinity, so that they serve as an implied acknowledgement of the receipt of the data by the forwarding station without the need for sending explicit confirmation.

Abstract: An apparatus for automatically maintaining the water level of a body of water, such as a pool, is described herein. The present invention comprises a float body contained within a float housing chamber and selectively coupled to a float valve, a ball check valve employed as a means for isolating the pressurized water in the circulation system of a body of water from the water in the float chamber and, after pump operation has ceased, allowing the passage of supply water from the float chamber of the apparatus of the circulation system of a body of water. Flexible conduits or tubing may be provided for ease of installation. Furthermore, the present invention is intended to be conveniently located near the equipment of the circulation system for the body of water.

Abstract: The invention relates to a method of operating a communication network, the network comprising a plurality of stations which are able to transmit data to and receive data from one another. The method comprises defining a first probing channel for the transmission of probe signals to other stations. Other stations which receive the first probe signals from a probing station indicate to the probing station their availability as destination or intermediate stations. A neighbor table comprising details of these other available stations is maintained at each station. Also, second probe signals are sent and received from stations in the neighbor table and a gradient table comprising data related to the cost of communicating with each neighbor station is maintained at each station, thereby to allow each station to select a predetermined number of intermediate stations for onward transmission of data from an originating station to a destination station at minimum cost.
