Abstract: A driving-rule system suitable to operate an automated includes a vehicle-detector and a controller. The vehicle-detector is suitable for use on a host-vehicle. The vehicle-detector is used to detect movement of an other-vehicle proximate to the host-vehicle. The controller is in communication with the vehicle-detector. The controller is configured to operate the host-vehicle in accordance with a driving-rule, detect an observed-deviation of the driving-rule by the other-vehicle, and modify the driving-rule based on the observed-deviation.

Abstract: A method of quantifying a particulate matter in an exhaust stream includes the steps of accumulating a particulate matter on a sensor. The sensor provides a signal that varies based upon an amount of the particulate on the sensor. The sensor includes a measurement cycle that includes a deadband zone, followed by an active zone, which is followed by a regeneration zone. The particulate matter is calculated after an end of the deadband zone is reached and prior to an end of the measurement cycle.

Abstract: A lane-change system suitable for use on an automated-vehicle includes a camera, a ranging-device, and a controller. The camera is used to detect an image of a lane-marking on a roadway traveled by a host-vehicle. The ranging-device is used to determine a distance and a direction from the host-vehicle to an other-vehicle proximate to the host-vehicle. The controller is in communication with the camera and the ranging-device. The controller is configured to control a lane-change by the host-vehicle in accordance with the image when the lane-marking is detected, and control the lane-change in accordance with the distance and the direction to the other-vehicle when the lane-marking is not detected.

Abstract: A camshaft phaser includes an input member; an output member defining an advance chamber and a retard chamber with the input member; a camshaft phaser attachment bolt which clamps the camshaft phaser to a camshaft, the camshaft phaser attachment bolt having a bolt valve bore extending along an axis. A valve sleeve is located coaxially within the bolt valve bore such that an annular clearance is provided radially therebetween. A valve spool is located coaxially within the valve sleeve such that the valve spool is moved coaxially between an advance position and a retard position. A compliant sealing ring radially between the bolt valve bore and the valve sleeve prevents fluid communication through the annular clearance axially between opposing axial sides of the sealing ring and isolates the valve sleeve from radial expansion of the camshaft phaser attachment bolt.

Abstract: A vehicle communication system for cloud-hosting sensor-data from a plurality of vehicles where each of the vehicles is equipped with one or more sensors used to detect objects proximate to each of the vehicles includes a transceiver and a controller. The transceiver is used to communicate sensor-data from a first-sensor on a first-vehicle and from a second-sensor on a second-vehicle. The controller is configured to receive, via the transceiver, first-data from the first-sensor and second-data from the second-sensor, and determine when the first-data and the second-data are both indicative of an object proximate to the first-vehicle and the second-vehicle, where the first-data is characterized by a first-confidence and the second-data is characterized by a second-confidence. The controller is configured to prevent communication of the second-data to the first-vehicle when the first-confidence is greater than the second-confidence.

Abstract: A motor control system includes a shaft configured to be rotationally driven by a motor. A rotor position sensor is configured to detect rotation of the shaft and output a rotor position signal. A controller is in communication with the motor and the rotor position sensor. The controller converts the rotor position signal to an angle with error, tracks the angle with error to provide an angle that retains mechanical dynamics as stationary reference frame signals, transforms the stationary reference frame signals and the angle with mechanical dynamics to rotating reference frame signals, filters the rotating reference frame signals, transforms the filtered rotating reference frame signals to provide filtered stationary frame signals, and takes an arctangent of the filtered stationary reference frame signals to create a corrected motor control angle. The controller commands the motor based upon the corrected motor control angle.

Abstract: A GDCI engine control system provides rapid heating of intake air to the combustion chamber when the engine is cold. The engine uses an intake air pathway that includes a compressor having a compressor inlet and a compressor outlet. A loop fluidly connects the compressor outlet to the compressor inlet. First and second valves are arranged in the loop and are arranged near the compressor outlet and the compressor inlet respectively. First and second passages converge at a first junction, and the first passage fluidly connects the first valve and the first junction. The second passage fluidly connects to the loop at a second junction arranged fluidly between the first and second valves. An intake air heat exchanger is arranged in the first passage and fluidly between the first valve and the first junction.
