Abstract:
An implantable device for estimating neural recruitment arising from a stimulus, has a plurality of electrodes. A stimulus source provides stimuli to be delivered from the electrodes to neural tissue. Measurement circuitry obtains a measurement of a neural signal sensed at the electrodes. A control unit is configured to control application of a selected stimulus to neural tissue using the stimulus electrodes; and after the selected neural stimulus, apply a probe stimulus having a short pulse Width. A remnant neural response evoked by the probe stimulus is measured; and the control unit estimates from the remnant neural response a neural recruitment caused by the selected neural stimulus.
Abstract:
A method of applying a neural stimulus with an implanted electrode array involves applying a sequence of stimuli configured to yield a therapeutic effect while suppressing psychophysical side effects. The stimuli sequence is configured such that a first stimulus recruits a portion of the fiber population, and a second stimulus is delivered within the refractory period following the first stimulus and the second stimulus being configured to recruit a further portion of the fiber population. Using an electrode array and suitable relative timing of the stimuli, ascending or descending volleys of evoked responses can be selectively synchronized or desynchronized to give directional control over responses evoked.

Abstract:
A component and method of cooling a component are provided. The component includes a leading edge, a trailing edge, at least one cavity between the leading edge and the trailing edge, at least one diffusion member adjacent to the cavity. The diffusion member includes an inlet adjacent to the cavity, a metering zone adjacent to the inlet, a diffusion zone adjacent to the metering zone, and an outlet adjacent the diffusion zone and adjacent the trailing edge. The diffusion member provides up to about 70% reduction in flow and uniform cooling of the trailing edge of the component.
Abstract:
A system that implements a scalable data storage service may maintain tables in a non-relational data store on behalf of clients. The system may provide a Web services interface through which service requests are received, and an API usable to request that a table be created, deleted, or described; that an item be stored, retrieved, deleted, or its attributes modified; or that a table be queried (or scanned) with filtered items and/or their attributes returned. An asynchronous workflow may be invoked to create or delete a table. Items stored in tables may be partitioned and indexed using a simple or composite primary key. The system may not impose pre-defined limits on table size, and may employ a flexible schema. The service may provide a best-effort or committed throughput model. The system may automatically scale and/or re-partition tables in response to detecting workload changes, node failures, or other conditions or anomalies.
Abstract:
In a system for displaying medical images, a first linear array of medical images representing multiple views of a patient taken approximately contemporaneously may be displayed. The images may automatically be ordered within the array based on the represented views. A second linear array of medical images adjacent to the first linear array may contemporaneously be displayed. The images of the second linear array may represent the same views of the patient as in the first linear array taken approximately contemporaneously but at an earlier time from the images of the first linear array. Like views of the patient may be aligned as between the first linear array and the second linear array. Correlation of features between images may thus be facilitated. Alternatively, one or more principal views and one or more non-principal views of a patient in a set of medical images may be identified. Each principal view may automatically be displayed in a particular size on a separate display of an array of displays, while each non-principal view may automatically be displayed on the remaining display or displays of the array in a smaller size.

Abstract:
Methods of positioning and orienting nanostructures, and particularly nanowires, on surfaces for subsequent use or integration. The methods utilize mask based processes alone or in combination with flow based alignment of the nanostructures to provide oriented and positioned nanostructures on surfaces. Also provided are populations of positioned and/or oriented nanostructures, devices that include populations of positioned and/or oriented nanostructures, systems for positioning and/or orienting nanostructures, and related devices, systems and methods.
Abstract:
The systems and methods of the present invention facilitate database row-level security by utilizing SQL extensions to create and associate named security expressions with a query initiator(s). Such expressions include Boolean expressions, which must be satisfied by a row of data in order for that data to be made accessible to the query initiator. In general, a query is augmented with security expressions, which are aggregated and utilized during querying rows of data. The systems and methods variously place security expressions within a query in order to optimize query performance while mitigating information leaks. This is achieved by tagging security expressions as special and utilizing rules of predicate to pull or push non-security expressions above or below security expressions, depending on the likelihood of a non-security being safe, as determined via a static and/or dynamic analysis.
Abstract:
A mesh storage apparatus comprises a conformal mesh member (14), which is attached to a retraction mechanism (10). Because the mesh member (14) has a point of attachment (20), rather than multiple points spread along one of its sides, the force of the retraction mechanism or another applied force collapses the mesh member along its major diagonal (13) into an elongated form, similar to that of a cable, rope, or strap, allowing for easy storage. It, therefore, takes advantage of the contractility of the mesh openings and the behavioral characteristics of conformal material under tension to store the mesh member (14) in a much more compact manner than with traditional storage apparatus.
