Abstract: A method is described for the treatment of obesity or other disorders, by electrical activation or inhibition of the sympathetic nervous system. This activation or inhibition can be accomplished by electrically stimulating the greater splanchnic nerve or other portion of the sympathetic nervous system using an implantable pulse generator. This nerve activation can result in reduced food intake and increased energy expenditure. Reduced food intake may occur through a variety of mechanisms that reduce appetite and cause satiety. Increased adrenal gland hormone levels will result in increased energy expenditure. Fat and carbohydrate metabolism, which are also increased by sympathetic nerve activation, will accompany the increased energy expenditure.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a process for the production of ethanol from a carbonaceous feedstock, wherein the carbonaceous feedstock is first converted to synthesis gas which is then converted to ethanoic acid, which is then subject to a two stage hydrogenation process by which at least a part of the ethanoic acid is converted by a primary hydrogenation process to ethyl ethanoate, which ethyl ethanoate is converted by a secondary hydrogenation process to produce ethanol.

Abstract: The paint tray liner apparatus provides removable fit to an existing paint tray, thereby providing a disposable liner. Flexible sides are collapsible and the liner bottom relatively rigid. The collapsible sides provide for reduced space storage of the apparatus, whether prior to use or after when discarded. The collapsible sides each has an inner panel spaced apart from an outer panel. Each inner and outer panel is connected by the continuous shelf. The side panels thereby fit the sides of a paint tray, with the apparatus tray bottom against a paint tray bottom.

Abstract: Cutting elements of this invention include an ultra hard body joined with a metallic substrate. The body includes an uppermost layer comprising a plurality of bonded ultra hard crystals and interstitial regions, and that form a body working surface. The uppermost layer includes a thermally stable outer region that is substantially free of a catalyst material. The body includes an intermediate layer joined to the uppermost layer, comprising a plurality of bonded ultra hard crystals, and having a wear resistance less than that of the uppermost layer remaining region. The intermediate material can include a catalyst and other materials. The ultra hard crystals can be diamond, and the volume fraction of crystals in the uppermost layer can be greater than that in the intermediate layer. The body may additionally include a lowermost PCD layer interposed between and attached to the intermediate layer and the substrate.

Abstract: Compositions, formulations, methods, and systems for treating regional fat deposits and fat-related conditions, dermal conditions, and muscular conditions. Methods comprise administering a composition comprising at least one compound that reduces desensitization of beta adrenergic receptors, for example a glucocorticosteroid, and/or at least one long-acting beta-2 adrenergic receptor agonist, for example, formoterol. Compositions to be administered include sustained release formulations comprising at least one long-acting beta-2 adrenergic receptor agonist, at least one compound that reduces desensitization of beta adrenergic receptors, or both in a sustained crystalline microparticle form.
