摘要: Methods for producing alcohols by deriving carbon dioxide from air or another dilute source, and supplying water, which is converted to hydrogen and oxygen, with subsequent conversion of the carbon dioxide and hydrogen into alcohols is disclosed. The method includes, but is not limited to including, a direct air capture system carbon dioxide, a water electrolysis unit powered by electricity, a hydrogenation reactor to convert carbon dioxide and hydrogen gases into alcohols, and a distillation system to separate alcohols or a single constituent alcohol from other hydrogenation products. Optionally, these methods may include systems capture water from air, if water or hydrogen is not available on-site, and the distillation system may use propylene glycol as an extraction solvent. This process can be used for on-site production of feedstock alcohols such as ethanol at high purity, and many other applications.

摘要: A process of and apparatus for dehydrating an alcohol/water mixture may include pressurizing the mixture to at least 40 psig, heating the pressurized mixture to a temperature of at least 170° F., passing the heated and pressurized mixture through at least one Zeolite separator to produce separate streams of water and pressurized and heated dehydrated alcohol, and using the pressurized and heated dehydrated alcohol to at least in part heat pressurized mixture and to cool the pressurized and heated dehydrated alcohol. At least some implementations may include cooling the pressurized and heated dehydrated alcohol to a temperature below its boiling point at atmospheric pressure. At least some implementations may include applying a vacuum to the water stream side of the Zeolite separator. At least some implementations may include cooling the stream of water to a temperature of less than about 200° F.

摘要: A method for producing an ethanol product includes obtaining a condensed distillate including ethanol at a concentration greater than 30% by volume and contacting the condensed distillate with an adsorbent polymer resin. The adsorbent polymer resin includes a polystyrene divinylbenzene copolymer. A surface of the adsorbent polymer resin is hydrophobic.Another method for producing a purified ethanol product includes obtaining a vapor phase distillate including ethanol at a concentration greater than 30% by volume, contacting the vapor phase distillate with an adsorbent polymer resin, and condensing the vapor phase distillate to produce the purified ethanol product. The adsorbent polymer resin includes a polystyrene divinylbenzene copolymer. A surface of the adsorbent polymer resin is hydrophobic.

摘要: A method for producing ethanol and coproducing methanol on a catalyst in a reactor using a co-feed of a synthesis gas and acetate as a reaction raw material comprising passing a raw material gas containing an acetate and a synthesis gas through a reactor loaded with a catalyst to produce ethanol and coproduce methanol under conditions of a reaction temperature of 150-350° C., a reaction pressure of 0.1-20.0 MPa, a reaction volume hourly space velocity of 100-45000 mlg−1h−1, and an acetate weight hourly space velocity of 0.01-5.0 h−1; and the active components of the catalyst are copper and optionally zinc and/or aluminum, which greatly facilitates the conversion of carbon monoxide to methanol, while an extremely high activity of acetate hydrogenation is maintained.

摘要: It is an object of the invention to provide an economically viable process for the production of hydrophobized aerogels which works both inexpensively and in a resource-conserving manner. 2.2. This object is achieved by the provision of a process for producing organically modified aerogels by producing a sol containing [SiO4/2] units and [RxSiO(4−X)/2] a units, where x may be the same or different and is 1, 2 or 3, and R may be the same or different and is hydrogen or an organic substituted or unsubstituted radical, using the sol to form a gel, surface-modifying the gel obtained in the presence of more than 0.1% by weight of a phase modifier in a mixture comprising organosiloxane and initiator, wherein the mixture contains at least 20% by weight of organosiloxane and wherein the initiator consists of acid or organosiloxane or mixtures thereof and the gels obtained are dried. 2.3. The aerogels provided can be used as insulating materials, especially in thermal insulation.

摘要: Methods to synthesize fuels and chemicals from natural gas liquids are described. Higher alcohols are synthesized starting from natural gas liquid compounds by converting an alkane from a NGL to an olefin, dimerizing said olefin, and, hydrating said olefin product to form a higher alcohol. Higher alcohols are synthesized starting from natural gas liquid compounds by converting an alkane from a NGL to an olefin, oxidizing the olefin to form a ketone or aldehyde and, hydrogenating the aldehyde or ketone product to form a higher alcohol. Thus, NGL component butane may be dehydrogenated to form butane, butylene is oxidized in the presence of a catalyst to form methylethyl ketone and methylethyl ketone hydrogenated to form butanol.
