    摘要: A smooth-bore plastic tubing with an outer helical support bead is resistant to collapse and incorporates plural conductors disposed outside of the tubing bore and insulated both from ambient and from one another. The conductors may have a desired relatively high thermal conductivity to tidal air flow within the tubing, while also having a comparatively high thermal resistance to ambient. The conductors may be electrical conductors, or may include fiber optic conductors as well in the same tubing structure. A method for making the tubing includes extruding a molten thermoplastic ribbon with an elevated plateau portion defining at least one conductor-receiving groove. The plastic ribbon is wrapped to form a tube and at least one conductor is embedded in the groove of the plateau portion. Finally a molten thermoplastic bead is then applied atop the plateau portion and atop of the embedded conductor providing a unitary flexible tubing structure with substantially smooth inside and outside surfaces free of crevices which could retain soil or bacteria.

    摘要: Method for preparing a mixed powder sample by mixing two or more different powders comprising transferring a quantity of a first powder to a mixing vessel and transferring a quantity of a second powder to the mixing vessel to form a powder bed in the mixing vessel comprising the first and second powders. The quantities of the powders are selected so the mixed sample has a predetermined ratio of first powder to second powder. The powder bed is fluidized to mix the powders and produce a mixed sample. The mixed sample weighs about 5 grams or less. The invention also includes apparatus for preparing mixed powder samples by mixing two or more different powders.

    摘要: An apparatus and method for screening combinatorial libraries of materials by measuring the response of individual library members to mechanical perturbations is described. The apparatus generally includes a sample holder for containing the library members, an array of probes for mechanically perturbing individual library members, and an array of sensors for measuring the response of each of the library members to the mechanical perturbations. Library members undergoing screening make up a sample array, and individual library members constitute elements of the sample array that are confined to specific locations on the sample holder. During screening, the apparatus mechanically perturbs individual library members by displacing the sample array (sample holder) and the array of probes. Typically, all of the elements of the sample array are perturbed simultaneously, but the apparatus also can also perturb individual or groups of sample array elements sequentially. The flexible apparatus and method can screen libraries of materials based on many different bulk physical properties, including Young's modulus (flexure, uniaxial extension, biaxial compression, and shear); hardness (indentation), failure (stress and strain at failure, toughness), adhesion (tack, loop tack), and flow (viscosity, melt flow indexing, and rheology), among others.

    摘要: A fence for a depressed waterway has a pair of anchor posts normally located on opposite sides of the waterway. At least one ground anchor is positioned between the anchor posts in the bottom of the waterway. A wire fence extends between the anchor posts and over the ground anchor. A vertical post is secured to the wire and is suspended by the wire above the ground anchor. The vertical post has a lower end detachably secured to the ground anchor so that the lower end of the vertical posts will disengage the ground anchor and will tilt on said wires in a downstream direction when encountered by debris under flooded conditions. The method of use of a waterway fence comprises placing opposite fence anchor posts on opposite sides of the waterway. At least one ground anchor is placed in the waterway below the normal vertical plane of the fence to be built. The fence wire extends between the anchor posts and over the waterway. A vertical post is secured to the wire above the ground anchor and is suspended by the wire, and is detachably secured by its lower end to the ground anchor. The lower end of the suspended post disengages the ground anchor and tilts in a downstream direction when impacted by debris under flooded conditions. The suspended post is held in its detachable connection with the ground anchor by the spring tension in the fence wire.
