    摘要: The invention is a two part polymerizable composition comprising in one part an organoborane amine complex and one or more compounds containing ring opening heterocyclic moieties, and in a second part, compounds capable of being polymerized by free radical polymerization, a catalyst capable of polymerizing compounds containing ring opening heterocyclic moieties and optionally a component that will decomplex the organoborane amine complex. In one embodiment the invention is a two phase system comprising a first phase containing one or more polymers prepared from the compounds which polymerize by free radical polymerization and a second phase comprising polymerized or partially polymerized compounds derived from one or more compounds containing ring opening heterocyclic moieties. In one embodiment the polymer prepared from compounds containing heterocyclic ring opening moieties is not miscible with the polymer prepared by free radical polymerization and thus the resulting polymerized composition has at least two regions each rich in one of the two polymers formed. In another embodiment the polymerizable compositions of the invention can be formulated into adhesive compositions. Adhesive compositions of the present formulation provide excellent adhesion to low surface energy plastics from room temperature to temperatures over 125° C.

    摘要: The invention is polymerizable composition comprising a) an organoborane/amine complex wherein the organoborane is a trialkyl borane or an alkyl cycloalkyl borane and the amine is selected from the group of amines having an amidine structural component; aliphatic heterocycles having at least one nitrogen in the heterocyclic ring; an alicyclic compound having bound to the ring a substituent having an amine moiety; primary amines which in addition to a primary amine have one or more hydrogen bond accepting groups of an ether, polyether, thioether or halogen wherein there is an alkylene chain of at least two carbon atoms between the primary amine and the hydrogen bond accepting group, and conjugated imines; and, b) one or more of monomers, oligomers or polymers having olefinic unsaturation; and optionally c) an effective amount of a compound which causes the complex to disassociate wherein the compound which causes disassociation of the complex is kept separate from the complex until initiation of polymerization is desired.

    摘要: An optical data storage medium comprises a substrate layer, a recording medium and an optional protective layer. The substrate layer supports the recording medium. The recording medium comprises a polymer having stable amorphous and crystalline states under human operating conditions which states have different optical properties. The recording medium is optionally covered and protected by a protective layer. The substrate, recording medium and protective layer can be formed from the same or different polymers. The data is stored by exposing the recording medium to patterned infra-red radiation. The radiation can be patterned by a mask, movement of the radiation beam or by other means to imprint the data on the recording medium.

    摘要: The present invention is a transparent thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) comprising structural units of: a.) a diisocyanate; b.1) a polyester diol and b.2) a specific polyether diol and c.) a chain extender. The TPU has good combinations of light transmission and clarity, tensile strength, low temperature flexibility, and high moisture vapor transition rates compared to other commercial or known TPUs. A preferred example composition is a TPU that is based on MDI as the diisocyanate monomer, polycaprolactone as a polyester diol, an EO capped EO/PO polyether diol containing less than 20% EO, and butanediol as chain extender. These composition have good combinations of clarity, tensile strength, hydrolytic stability and processability compared to TPUs prepared using either polyester or polyether diols alone or the combination with a higher EO polyether diol.

    摘要: The invention is a two part composition useful for initiating cure of one or more polymerizable monomers which cure when exposed to free radicals comprising in one part an organoboraneamine complex and in a second part an isocyanate which is capable of decomplexing the organoborane complex wherein the ratio of amine nitrogen atoms to boron atoms is greater than 4.0:1.0. In another embodiment the invention is a two part polymerizable composition comprising part 1, a) an organoborane amine complex; and part 2, b) one or more of monomers, oligomers or polymers having olefinic unsaturation which is capable of polymerization by free radical polymerization c) an effective amount of a compound which causes the complex to disassociate thereby freeing the borane to initiate polymerization of the one or more monomers, oligomers or polymers having olefinic unsaturation wherein the compound which causes disassociation of the complex is kept separate from the complex until initiation of polymerization is desired; and d) a material which manages the heat of the polymerization reaction such that adhesion to the substrate is maintained, which material can be located in either part 1, part 2 or both parts.

    摘要: In one embodiment the invention is a polymerizable composition comprising a) an organoborane amine complex; b) one or more of monomers, oligomers or polymers having olefinic unsaturation which is capable of polymerization by free radical polymerization; c) one or more compounds, oligomers or prepolymers having a siloxane backbone and reactive moieties capable of polymerization; and d) a catalyst for the polymerization of the one or more compounds, oligomers or prepolymers having a siloxane backbone and reactive moieties capable of polymerization. This composition may further comprise a compound which causes the organoborane amine complex to disassociate. In a preferred embodiment, the two part composition further comprises a compound which is reactive with both the b) one or more of monomers, oligomers or polymers having olefinic unsaturation which is capable of polymerization by free radical polymerization; and the c) one or more compounds, oligomers or prepolymers having a siloxane backbone and reactive moieties capable of polymerization. This composition can be polymerized by contacting the two parts of the composition. In another embodiment the invention is an organoborane amine complex comprising an alkyl borane having ligands which are alkyl, cycloalkyl or both and an amino siloxane.
