Axial bearing wear in a motor is determined by differencing signals from special coils in the two ends of the motor stator. The signals on the two coils vary in opposite directions with axial displacement of the motor rotor. A dead zone circuit suppresses output when the axial displacement of the rotor is within the normal range of play for the rotor of the particular motor. When the axial displacement exceeds the normal range, the output actuates an indicator in relation to the magnitude of the displacement in excess of the normal range. Sequential LED indicators indicate both magnitude and direction of excess displacement. An analog meter is also disclosed which indicates only the magnitude of the excess displacement.

A camber control system varies the camber of a wheel of a motor vehicle. The camber control system includes a detector for detecting a direction in which front wheels are steered, a controller for producing a control signal in response to a signal produced by the detector, an actuator operable in response to the control signal from the controller, and a rear wheel camber varying mechanism actuatable by the actuator for varying the camber of rear wheels. The controller is arranged such that the control signal produced thereby enables the actuator to operate the rear wheel camber varying mechanism so that the camber of outer and inner rear wheels with respect to a motor vehicle turning direction corresponding to the direction in which the front wheels are steered, is rendered negative and positive, respectively. The rear wheel camber varying mechanism has a wheel supporting member for supporting a rear wheel rotatably thereon, and lower and upper coupling members interconnecting the wheel supporting member and a body of the motor vehicle. The upper coupling member is movable transversely of the motor vehicle body, and the actuator is coupled to a portion of the upper coupling member which is mounted on the motor vehicle body.

The radial tire comprises at least one extensible and compressible rubberized side portion reinforcing layer arranged at that area of a side portion of the tire which is inclusive of at least maximum cross-section position of the carcass and each containing a reinforcing element embedded therein and composed of helically formed filaments or at least 2 bundles each formed by merely assembling together the helically formed filaments without twisting at random. The helically formed filament is formed of a material having a tensile breaking strength of at least 140 kg/mm.sup.2. The reinforcing element has an elongation at tensile breaking strength which is at least 1.2 times larger than that of a metal cord of a radial carcass.
