Abstract:
A coated article which includes a cement fiberboard substrate and a radiation-curable coating system applied to the substrate. The coating system includes one or more olefinic compounds and one or more PVC dispersion resins, and may be provided in the form of one or more coating compositions that may be applied in one or more layers.
Abstract:
A polymer useful in coating compositions is described. The polymer is preferably an unsaturated polyurethane polymer, which preferably has an iodine value of at least 10. The polymer may be combined with one or more liquid carriers to form a liquid coating composition useful in coating a variety of substrates, including planar metal substrates.
Abstract:
This invention relates to coating compositions that include water; a latex polymer and a silane coupling agent. The latex polymer preferably comprises acetoacetoxy functionality, or is a multistage latex, or is an acetoacetoxy functional multistage latex. The silane coupling agent is preferably a functionalized silane coupling agent (more preferably an epoxy-functional silane coupling agent). The compositions may be used to coat a variety of substrates, including wood, cement and fiber cement. Articles having the coating applied thereto are also provided.
Abstract:
An aqueous crosslinkable coating composition that includes a PU polymer and a vinyl polymer bearing carbonyl groups (i.e., a carbonyl-functional vinyl polymer) and/or latex polymer. The composition also preferably includes carbonyl-reactive amine and/or hydrazine functional groups.
Abstract:
A coating composition for a food or beverage can that includes an emulsion polymerized latex polymer formed by combining an ethylenically unsaturated monomer component with an aqueous dispersion of a water-dispersible polymer.
Abstract:
A vinyl polymer pigment dispersing agent having a vinyl addition polymer backbone, one or more polymer side chains with pendant cyclic urea functional group(s) separated from the polymer backbone by at least 10 intervening atoms, and in some embodiments one or more polymer side chains comprising pendant urea functional groups separated from the polymer back-bone by less than 10 intervening atoms. The dispersing agent may be made by addition polymerizing a mixture of one or more vinyl monomers and one or more monomers having cyclic urea functional groups and vinyl functional groups. The dispersing agent may be combined with pigment particles, a carrier and an optional surfactant to make a pigment grind dispersion with excellent pigment wetting and dispersing properties.
Abstract:
The bottom of a cement fiberboard article is coated by conveying the article across a gap between a first conveyor and second conveyer and applying a liquid radiation-curable coating system to at least the bottom surface of the article while the article passes over the gap. The coating system is radiation-cured to at least a reduced tack state before the coated surface contacts the second conveyor.
Abstract:
The present invention provides coating compositions that include substantially non-irritating ethylenically unsaturated compounds and have one or more of the following properties: high performance, low VOC levels, substantially no formaldehyde content, and low irritation levels.

Abstract:
The present invention provides coating compositions that include reactive diluents and have high performance, low VOC levels, and low irritation levels. Certain embodiments of the present invention include water and water-dispersible polymers and other embodiments do not include water.
