    摘要: A lubricant is supplied from headers of lubricant supply units onto surfaces of back-up rolls at locations spaced from contact positions between a pair of work rolls and a pair of back-up rolls. The headers each include a lubricant spray nozzle for spraying the lubricant under a pressure not lower than 3 kg/cm.sup.2, a header cover for confining the lubricant sprayed from the lubricant spray nozzle, an oil return line for returning the surplus lubricant, and seal members made of flexible material such as rubber. The work rolls are provided with water wiping plates, and the back-up rolls are also provided with water wiping plates. In a work rolls crossing type mill thus arranged, water films of cooling water deposited on the roll surfaces are removed to prevent the cooling water from mixing into the lubricant. Even if the water films are not totally removed, it is possible to surely plate out the lubricant for reliably lubricating between the work rolls and the back-up rolls. Raw lubricant oil of the lubricant meets the following requirements; (a) the coefficient of friction between said work rolls and said back-up rolls is in the range of 0.04 to 0.1, (b) the viscosity is not larger than 80 Cst. at 40.degree. C., (c) mineral oil and synthetic ester not less than 5% are contained as base oil, (d) a fatty acid in the range of 0.03 to 0.5% is contained as an oiliness enhancer, (e) an extreme pressure additive not less than 0.1% is contained, and preferably, (f) a surface active agent not larger than 0.5% is contained as emulsifier.

    摘要: A trailing end of a preceding bar is arranged slantingly by an angle .theta. relative to a succeeding bar such that the lower edge of the leading end face of the succeeding bar is vertically shifted from the lower edge of the trailing end face of the preceding bar with the leading end face of the succeeding bar abutting against the trailing end face of the preceding bar. After that, the succeeding bar is vertically depressed by applying a predetermined force. Since the trailing end face is inclined by .theta. relative to the leading end face, the depression causes a relative slide between surfaces of both the end faces and, at the same time, a pressure P is also produced by the wedge effect, the pressure P causing a compression force and a plastic deformation between both the end faces. Oxide scales on the contact surfaces of both the end faces are peeled off due to the plastic deformation and the relative slide, so that the metal surfaces of the material are exposed to join the bars simultaneously in combination with the compression force and the plastic deformation caused by the pressure P. Thus, the bars are joined to each other in a short time for realization of continuous hot rolling.

    摘要: In a continuous hot rolling system, at least one melt-cut torch is set in a predetermined positional relationship with respect to a trailing end of a preceding hot material and a leading end of an adjacent succeeding hot material. An injected flow of cutting gas from the melt-cut torch is blown against a portion of at least one of the trailing end of the preceding material and the leading end of the succeeding material to melt-cut the portion. The portion extends from an end surface of the one end over a predetermined length. The trailing end of the preceding material and the leading end of the succeeding material are forced against each other and are butt-joined to each other. By doing so, there are produced joining surfaces superior in surface accuracy and high in temperature, to allow joining to be high in accuracy and strength. This joining may be made with respect to slabs before rough rolling, or may be made with respect to bars after rough rolling. Further, a slab manufactured by a continuous casting machine are reduced in thickness at a plurality of desired locations to form a plurality of thickness-reduced portions. Cutting is made at the thickness-reduced portions. The cut thickness-reduced portions are joined to each other. Furthermore, the ends of the respective materials after having been cut are reduced in thickness with the ends abutted against each other to form thickness-reduced portions. The thickness-reduced portions are joined to each other.

    摘要: Horizontal supporting rolls disposed at a lateral side of the work rolls support the work rolls in the direction of travel of the rolled material, and horizontal back-up rolls disposed at a lateral side of the horizontal supporting rolls back-up the horizontal supporting rolls. Frames rotatably hold the horizontal supporting rolls and the horizontal back-up rolls at both axial ends of these rolls, and a first driving mechanism causes a movement of the frames in the direction of travel of the material to be rolled and to impart to the work rolls desired pressing force acting in the direction of travel of the rolled material. A second driving mechanism restrains the position of the frames thus setting the work rolls at predetermined offset positions, provided on the face of the housing confronting the holding means and adapted to guide the movement of the holding member in the direction of travel of the rolled material. With this arrangement, it is possible to prevent any horizontal deflection of the work roll thus affording a highly precise crown and shape control on the rolled product, while facilitating the setting of the work rolls at a designated offset position, as well as replacement of the work rolls.
