摘要:
Single nucleotide polymorphic sites of the bovine HSP genes are associated with improved fertilization rate and/or improved embryo survival rate in cattle. Nucleic acid molecules, kits, methods of genotyping and marker assisted bovine breeding methods based on these SNPs are disclosed.

Gene expression profiles associated with improved or maintained lean body mass or reduced body fat are disclosed. The gene expression profiles were determined in adipose, liver, and muscle tissue of animals subjected to lean-promoting regimens such as consumption of a high protein diet, ingestion of conjugated linolenic acid, and/or increased exercise. Methods of using such profiles for the identification of pharmaceutical substances, nutraceutical substances, dietary substances, or treatment regimens that modulate or contribute to desired phenotypes in animals are also disclosed

The present invention relates to the discovery that the T1R receptors assemble to form functional taste receptors. Particularly, it has been discovered that co-expression of T1R1 and T1R3 results in a taste receptor that responds to umami taste stimuli, including monosodium glutamate. Also, it has been discovered that co-expression of the T1R2 and T1R3 receptors results in a taste receptor that responds to sweet taste stimuli including naturally occurring and artificial sweeteners. Finally, the invention relates to the discovery that some compounds, e.g., lactisole, inhibit both the activities of human T1R2/T1R3 and T1R1/T1R3 receptors, and accordingly the sweet and umami taste, suggesting that these receptors may be the only sweet and umami receptors.

The methods and kits described herein are based, in part, to the discovery phenotype representing a fully-reprogrammed iPS cell and several reprogramming intermediates. The methods and kits described herein permit identification of fully-reprogrammed iPS cells and further permits one of skill in the art to monitor the emergence of iPS cells during the reprogramming process. The methods/kits can also be performed using real time using live cell imaging. Also described herein are methods for screening candidate reprogramming agents by monitoring the emergence of fully-reprogrammed iPS cells in the presence and absence of such an agent.

The present invention provides screening kits, compositions, and diagnostic methods for determining whether a subject has a predisposition to, or likelihood of having, a substance use disorder by determining a nucleic acid methylation profile from a biological sample from the subject, wherein a given profile indicates that the subject has a predisposition to a substance use disorder.

Disclosed herein are methods for enhancing one or more effects of exercise in a subject by administering a PPARδ agonist (e.g., GW1516) to the subject in combination with an exercise program. Also disclosed are gene expression profiles unique to the combination of agonist-induced PPARδ activation and exercise. Such profiles are useful, at least, in methods for identifying the use of performance-enhancing drugs in exercised subjects (such as, professional or athletes). Direct interactions between PPARδ and exercised-induced kinases (e.g., AMPK or its subunits, AMPK α1 and/or AMPK α2) also are disclosed. Such protein-protein interactions provide new targets for identification of useful compounds.
摘要:
The present disclosure includes methods of improving the quality of poultry and the efficiency of its production. Specifically, single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) have been identified in signature domains and conserved residues found in α-class turkey Glutathione S-Transferase (GSTA) genes. These SNPS correlate with aflatoxin resistance in turkeys. Thus, methods of screening for the relevant SNPs using polynucleotides and anti-peptide antibodies, kits that include these tools, and methods of breeding aflatoxin resistant flocks are provided herein.

Methods, compositions, and systems are provided for managing bovine subjects in order to maximize their individual potential performance and edible meat value, and to maximize profits obtained in marketing the bovine subjects. The methods and systems draw an inference of a trait of a bovine subject by determining the nucleotide occurrence of at least one bovine SNP that is identified herein as being associated with the trait. The inference is used in methods of the present invention to establish the economic value of a bovine subject, to improve profits related to selling beef from a bovine subject; to manage bovine subjects, to sort bovine subjects; to improve the genetics of a bovine population by selecting and breeding of bovine subjects, to clone a bovine subject with a specific trait, to track meat or another commercial product of a bovine subject; and to diagnose a health condition of a bovine subject. Methods are also disclosed for identifying additional SNPs associated with a trait, by using the associated SNPs identified herein.

Genetic screening is described which allows for the identification of athletes predisposed to physical conditions that could affect their performance. This, in turn, allows for associated personnel such as trainers, strength/conditioning coaches, and physicians, to develop pre-habilitation strategies that are personalized for the athlete's genetic and corresponding physical makeup.
