摘要: Provided is an observation device which can obtain a phase image of a moving object rapidly with high sensitivity even when using a photodetector having a slow read-out speed per pixel. The observation device 1 comprises a light source 10, a first modulator 20, a second modulator 30, a lens 40, a beam splitter 41, a photodetector 46, and an arithmetic unit 50. The lens 40 receives scattered light generated by a moving object 2 and forms a Fourier transform image of the object 2. The photodetector 46 outputs data representing a sum in a v direction of data temporally changing at a frequency corresponding to a Doppler shift frequency of the light having reached each position on a light-receiving surface through the lens 40 at each position in a u direction at each time. The arithmetic unit 50 obtains an image of the object 2 according to the output of the photodetector 46.

According to the invention, a phase plate, aligned concentrically to the optical axis, can be integrated into and taken out of the air space between the first lens and the second lens, as viewed from the object side. The defined arrangement of the phase plate and the associated shift of the real pupil into the air space between the first two lenses or groups of lenses, respectively, of the microscope objective allows a microscope objective, initially designed as a bright-field variant, to be redesigned as a phase contrast variant with relative ease.

摘要: A system for increasing the depth of field and decreasing the wavelength sensitivity and the effects of misfocus-producing aberrations of the lens of an incoherent optical system incorporates a special purpose optical mask into the incoherent system. The optical mask has been designed to cause the optical transfer function to remain essentially constant within some range from the in-focus position. Signal processing of the resulting intermediate image undoes the optical transfer modifying effects of the mask, resulting in an in-focus image over an increased depth of field. Generally the mask is placed at a principal plane or the image of a principal plane of the optical system. Preferably, the mask modifies only phase and not amplitude of light. The mask may be used to increase the useful range of passive ranging systems.

摘要: An imaging system is characterized at least by an ambiguity function (“AF”) and a point spread function (“PSF”). The AF is a function of parameters u and v related to a misfocus parameter ψ; the PSF is at least a function of ψ. The system includes (1) an image recording device, (2) an optical arrangement for imaging an object to the image recording device, and (3) a post processor that renders an in-focus electronic image over a range of distances between the object and the optical arrangement. The optical arrangement alters phase such that a main lobe of the AF is broader in v for a specific u. The PSF has a functionally different form for a specific ψ, in comparison to a PSF characterizing the system when the optical arrangement does not alter the phase for those specific values of u and ψ over the range of distances.

摘要: An interference contrast imaging system images phase objects. The system includes an illumination source, illumination optics, polarizing optics for splitting the illumination into orthogonal polarizations and for recombining the polarizations, objective optics that form an image at a detector, a wavefront coding element and a post processor for processing the image by removing a phase shift imparted by the wavefront coding element. The wavefront coding element has an aperture, is between the phase object and the detector, and provides an altered optical transfer function of the imaging system by imparting the phase shift to the illumination transmitted through the wavefront coding element. The altered optical transfer function is insensitive to an object distance between the phase object and the objective optics over a greater range of object distances than would be provided by an optical transfer function of a corresponding interference contrast imaging system without the wavefront coding element.
