A temperature sensitive valve apparatus is operated by engine temperature and is interposed in a communicating passage between the inlet pipe and the negative pressure operated apparatus. The valve apparatus is so constructed that the negative pressure operated apparatus is brought into its operating condition by being in communication with the inlet pipe when the engine temperature is low, but is brought into inoperative condition by being in communication with the ambient air when the engine is heated to a predetermined temperature.

A fuel supply system for an internal combustion engine utilizing an automatic transmission including a torque converter and a gear train has a carburetor with an inlet passage and a throttle valve therein. A sensing member is in a first position when the gear train is in a neutral position and a second position when the gear train is in a drive position. A throttle valve control slightly opens or closes the throttle valve in response to the sensing member. The throttle valve control operates to slightly open the throttle valve to hold the idling speed of the engine to a predetermined value when the gear train is in the drive position, thereby preventing the engine speed from decreasing due to the load.

A hydraulic diaphragm actuator motor operates the throttle and incorporates a dashpot to provide a throttle return check operative after manual actuation of the throttle. A control unit in the power steering pump circuit incorporates the restrictive orifice as well as various valves and mechanisms to provide governor damping, limit throttle opening travel upon oil flow failure and hold a fast idle position during cold starting and warm-up.

The carburetor has a fuel/air mixture supply circuit constituted by the sequence of an ascending channel connected to a float chamber through an immersed calibrated orifice and a descending channel with an opening into the intake pipe of the carburetor downstream of the main throttle member of this pipe. The descending channel is controlled by a member which opens it only during periods of deceleration of the engine. The linking zone between the two channels is above the constant level of the float chamber and connected through an air passage having a second calibrated orifice, to an air intake zone of the carburetor other than that connected to the upper portion of the float chamber. The ascending channel has a further calibrated orifice above the constant level and communicates with the space above the constant level through a passage of small cross-section opening into the ascending channel between its two calibrated orifices and also itself above the constant level. The assembly reduces the suction in the ascending channel to an extent insufficient or sufficient to stop the fuel being sucked into the descending channel according as the closure member is open or not.
