Abstract: Vasculature models and associated systems and methods are disclosed herein. In some embodiments, the model comprises a tube including a lumen extending therethrough, a synthetic thrombus including a magnetic component, and a magnetized member. The thrombus is sized to be positioned within the lumen, and the magnetized member is positioned peripheral to the thrombus such that a radially outward force is exerted on the thrombus via the magnetized member. The tube may be part of a network of tubes that generally resemble human neurovasculature.

Abstract: Devices for removing clot material from a blood vessel lumen and associated systems and methods are disclosed herein. A clot retrieving device may include, for example, an elongated member, a cover having proximal, intermediate, and distal portions. The cover may be slideably coupled to the distal region of the elongated member at a connector. The cover may have an inner layer and an outer layer. The inner layer may have (a) a first cross-sectional dimension at the proximal portion of the cover, (b) a distally increasing cross-sectional dimension along the intermediate portion of the cover, and (c) a second cross-sectional dimension at the distal portion of the cover, wherein the second cross-sectional dimension is greater than the first cross-sectional dimension. The outer layer may have a cross-sectional dimension that is generally constant along the distal portion and the intermediate portion of the cover.

Abstract: A system for detecting strokes includes a sensor device configured to obtain physiological data from a patient, for example brain activity data. A computing device communicatively coupled to the sensor device is configured to receive the physiological data and compare it with reference data. The reference data can be patient data from an opposite brain hemisphere to the hemisphere being interrogated or the reference data can be non-patient data from stroke and normal patient populations. Based on comparison of the physiological data and the reference data, the system indicates whether the patient has suffered a stroke.

The sensor device can include electrodes configured to be disposed at the back of the patient's neck or base of the skull. The electrodes can detect electrical signals corresponding to brain activity in the P3, Pz, and/or P4 brain regions or other brain regions. A computing device communicatively coupled to the sensor device is configured to receive the physiological data and analyze it to indicate whether the patient has suffered a stroke.

Abstract: A method for treating an aneurysm in accordance with a particular embodiment of the present technology includes intravascularly delivering a mixture including a biopolymer (e.g., chitosan) and a chemical crosslinking agent (e.g., genipin) to an aneurysm. The method further includes mixing the biopolymer and the chemical crosslinking agent to initiate chemical crosslinking of the biopolymer. The mixture is delivered to the aneurysm via a lumen and an exit port of a catheter while the chemical crosslinking is ongoing. The mixture exits the catheter as a single cohesive strand that at least partially agglomerates to form a mass occupying at least 75% of a total internal volume of the aneurysm. During delivery of the mixture, the method includes expanding a tubular flow diverter to reinforce a neck of the aneurysm.

Abstract: A medical device, for insertion into an anatomical vessel, can include a sheath, a delivery wire, and a frame or vessel-engaging member. The delivery wire can have a first stop, a second stop, and a coupling area between the first and second stops. The coupling area can be disposed within and movable relative to the sheath. The frame or vessel-engaging member can have a matrix of cells, first and second tapered sections, and interlocking members. The interlocking members can be attached to the tapered sections. The interlocking members can be releasably coupled to the delivery wire at the coupling area with the interlocking members surrounded and held in the coupling area by the sheath. The interlocking members can be movable relative to the sheath, and the interlocking members can separate from each other when the interlocking members are positioned distal to the sheath.

Abstract: Methods for applying layers to medical devices and related devices are provided. Such devices can include stents. For example, the device can include a sidewall and a plurality of pores in the sidewall that are sized to inhibit flow of blood through the sidewall into an aneurysm to a degree sufficient to lead to thrombosis and healing of the aneurysm when the tubular member is positioned in a blood vessel and adjacent to the aneurysm. The device can have an anti-thrombogenic outer layer distributed over at least a portion of the device.

Abstract: Methods for forming an expandable tubular body having a plurality of braided filaments including a first filament including platinum or platinum alloy and a second filament including cobalt-chromium alloy. The methods include applying a first phosphorylcholine material directly on the platinum or platinum alloy of the first filament and applying a silane material on the second filament followed by a second phosphorylcholine material on the silane material on the second filament. The first and second phosphorylcholine materials each define a thickness of less than 100 nanometers.
