Abstract: A permanent magnet electric machine includes a rotor configured to rotate about an axis. The rotor is comprised of axially stacked sections. Each section is comprised of axially stacked laminations that define a pattern of axial grooves on an outer surface of the rotor to reduce torque ripple. The pattern is different for at least two of the sections. The pattern for each section may alternate with respect to poles of the rotor.

Abstract: A discontinuous pulse width modulation technique is used in a controller to control an inverter that converts DC battery power to AC power to operate an electric motor, e.g., in a hybrid electric vehicle. The discontinuous pulse width modulation technique uses only one of the two zero state voltage vectors in its calculations whereas traditional pulse width modulation uses both zero state voltage vectors. The use of a single zero state voltage vector can result in one of a group of switches in the inverter remaining in a constant state during a complete duty cycle while still providing the commanded voltage vector to the electrical motor. As a result losses due to switching can be reduced.

Abstract: A battery electrical vehicle or plug-in hybrid electric vehicle includes a battery which may be charged by an electrical charging station coupled to the electric power grid. To maximize the charging efficiency thus decreasing charge time, the voltage and current drawn from the power grid may be closely monitored. Based on the monitoring of the voltage and current of an electrical circuit powering a battery charger, a notification of changing conditions to charging characteristics including electric circuit wiring resistance, power loss or wiring efficiency may be generated.

Abstract: A hybrid-electric vehicle and method of controlling a hybrid-vehicle is provided. The vehicle includes a traction battery, at least one electric-machine, and a controller. The controller is configured to alter a voltage between the battery and the electric-machine based on a measured voltage of the battery or the high voltage bus. In response to an indication that the measured voltage is faulty during a drive cycle, the controller instead alters the voltage between the battery and the electric machine based on a substituted battery voltage signal such that the electric-machine remains operable for the drive cycle.

Abstract: A deburring gauge system that includes a gauge set, a gauge holder secured to the gauge set, and a controller. The gauge set is configured to be at least partially inserted into a slot set of a stator. Each gauge part of the gauge set includes a body having a shape that corresponds to a shape of a respective slot of the slot set. The body of each gauge part includes an abrasive portion extending along a length of the body. The controller is in communication with the gauge holder and configured to move the gauge holder in a first direction toward the stator so that the abrasive portion of the body is at least partially inserted into the respective slot and move the gauge holder in a second direction away from the stator so that the abrasive portion of the body is removed from the respective slot.
