Abstract:
Systems and associated methods for treating contaminant-containing wastewater are provided. The systems generally include a reducing zone for reducing the oxidation-reduction potential of the water and a clean-up zone comprising zero valent iron for removing at least a portion of the contaminant from the contaminant-containing water. The systems are operable to remove one or more contaminants from the contaminant-containing water and are operable for extended durations without clogging due to the formation of iron hydroxides.
Abstract:
A method of digitally printing textile substrates includes pretreating a textile substrate with a solution that is configured to limit penetration of aqueous colorant into fibers of the textile substrate, drying the pretreated textile substrate for a predetermined period of time, and digitally printing one or more aqueous colorants onto the dried textile substrate. The pretreatment solution comprises a polyamine with a quaternary ammonium compound attached to the polyamine backbone. The pretreatment solution may be applied onto one or both sides of a textile substrate.
Abstract:
A method of testing a sample comprising the steps of: applying an excitation to the sample; detecting a response signal from the sample; processing a first part and a second part of the response signal; and determining from the second part of the response signal information with which to enhance the first part of the response signal.
Abstract:
A method for controlling at least one load connected to a primary and a backup power supply having sensor for sensing a voltage on the primary power supply with a first voltage sensor; sensor for sensing a voltage on the backup power supply with a second voltage sensor and implementing a control algorithm in a controller to augment power from said primary power supply with power from the backup power supply in response to an input from the first and second voltage sensors and an input from at least one external sensor wherein the algorithm controls a switch between the at least one load and the primary and backup power supplies.
Abstract:
A chassis can be electro-mechanically rotated about an axis. The chassis contains a laser module and an inclination sensor. A laser beam and/or a laser line or plane can be emitted from chassis using a lens or reflector to focus the light in the desired beam or plane shape. The inclinometer/accelerometer senses the spatial orientation of the chassis and a microprocessor drives a motor through a motor control to adjust the angular orientation of the chassis. Preset angular orientations may be programmed into microprocessor that define predetermined angular orientations of the chassis.
Abstract:
A line generating device generates two fan-shaped beams of light at an angle to each other, and projects the beams onto an adjacent surface, where the beams are visible as lines on the surface. A user has access to the intersection of the lines, so that the intersection can be marked or otherwise used in combination with the lines, such as in aligning objects.
Abstract:
Apparatuses and methods for forming displays are claimed. One embodiment of the invention relates to depositing a plurality of blocks onto a substrate and is coupled to a flexible layer having interconnect deposited thereon. Another embodiment of the invention relates to forming a display along a length of a flexible layer wherein a slurry containing a plurality of elements with circuit elements thereon washes over the flexible layer and slides into recessed regions or holes found in the flexible layer. Interconnect is then deposited thereon. In another embodiment, interconnect is placed on the flexible layer followed by a slurry containing a plurality of elements.
Abstract:
Methods and apparatuses for identifying devices, such as RF tags, are described. In one exemplary method of an embodiment of the invention, a reader identifies tags without requiring or determining whether a response to an interrogation was a single response from a single tag or multiple responses from multiple tags. In another exemplary method of an embodiment, a method is performed by a tag in an identification system, and the method includes receiving a first data from a reader, and correlating the first data with a first corresponding portion of the tag's identification code, and specifying a match if the first data matches the first corresponding portion, and receiving second data which, combined with the first data, is correlated with a second corresponding portion of the tag's identification code.
Abstract:
Techniques are provided for enabling execution of a process employing a cache. Method steps can include obtaining a first probability of accessing a given artifact in a state Si, obtaining a second probability of using a predicate from a current state Sc in the state Si, determining a benefit of prefetching the given artifact using the predicate based on at least the first probability and the second probability, and whether and/or when a cache replacement should be conducted, based at least on the benefit determined.
Abstract:
Systems and methods for describing video content establish video description records which include an object set (24), an object hierarchy (26) and entity relation graphs (28). Video objects can include global objects, segment objects and local objects. The video objects are further defined by a number of features organized in classes, which in turn are further defined by a number of feature descriptors (36, 38, and 40). The relationships (44) between and among the objects in the object set (24) are defined by the object hierarchy (26) and entity relation graphs (28). The video description records provide a standard vehicle for describing the content and context of video information for subsequent access and processing by computer applications such as search engines, filters and archive systems.
